Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. For $100.00 Fun-Trivia Imaginary Dollars - who led the Israelites out of Egypt towards the Promised Land?

Answer: Moses

Yes, it was Moses who led them. In Exodus 3:10-12 God spoke to Moses and gave him instructions to lead the descendants of Israel, (Jacob), out of Egypt. Moses himself did not get to actually enter the Promised Land, however.
Joshua led the people to their new home.
2. For $200.00 - which previously married woman became the wife of Boaz, after her first husband had died?

Answer: Ruth

Ruth, who was a foreigner, (a Moabite woman, from a country today known as Jordan), married a relative of her mother-in-law, Naomi. Ruth's first husband was one of the sons of Elimelech and Naomi. You can find all this in the Book of Ruth.
3. Hmmm... For $300.00 - Which Old Testament prophet ate food that birds provided to him?

Answer: Elijah

Living by the waters of a brook during a severe drought, Elijah stayed put for a while and God sent ravens to feed him. Later, a widow with a young son cared for this man of God. (1 Kings 17:3-6, King James Version)
4. Maybe getting tougher here. For $500.00 - Not everyone may be aware that some of Jesus's disciples were inconsistent followers. What Bible character is noted for answering a question by Jesus with these words: "Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life."

Answer: the disciple Simon Peter

In the sixth chapter of the gospel of John in the King James Version of the Bible we read the following exchange between Jesus and Peter.

"'But there are some of you that believe not.' For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. And he said, 'Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.'

"From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

"Then said Jesus unto the twelve, 'Will ye also go away?'

"Then Simon Peter answered him, 'Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.'"
5. Oh, wow! For $1,000.00 - The apostle Paul was once preaching until early in the morning. A young man grew sleepy and fell out of a third-story window and died. Afterwards, Paul resurrected the young man, Eutychus, but tell me this... where did this event occur?

Answer: Troas

Maybe there is an object lesson here about sleeping during the sermon at church! Granted, though, Paul DID preach until midnight. See Acts 20:7-12.
6. Be careful now! For $2,000.00 - Which of the following was NOT part of the ten commandments?

Answer: Thou shalt covet thy neighbor's house...

The scripture that speaks against desiring our neighbor's possessions is found in Exodus 20:17. It is plainly intended to prevent people from comparing themselves to others and thus is openly discouraging of the concept of people desiring what their neighbor has. All of his possessions, his spouse, his servants, etc. are his, and should not be desired by us as our own.
7. What's this? A plague? You COULD earn $4,000.00 with this one. - The disease of leprosy, as mentioned in the Old Testament, could be found in articles of clothing, as well as on human skin.

Answer: True

In Leviticus 14:47-59, we see that leprosy was a social disease that could be communicated to others merely by sharing clothing with them. Even a house could be leprosy-riddled!

Gives a whole new meaning to the expression "A plague on your house!", doesn't it?
8. Oh-ho! Think it through! For $8,000.00 - According to the King James Version of Luke 9:28-34, what was the reaction of the disciples Peter, James and John when they were present at the transfiguration of Christ, prior to His death?

Answer: fear

Luke 9:34 states that while Peter was impetuously speaking that: "...there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud."
9. Ouch! You've got to be kidding! For $16,000.00 - From which one of the tribes of Israel was the man who chopped his female traveling companion's body into pieces, sending one piece of her body to each of the other tribes?

Answer: Levi

For the details of this whole sordid and bizarre story, see the 19th and 20th chapters of Judges.
10. Better read these in the Bible before answering... For $32,000.00 - What are the similarities that can be found between Jeremiah 4:23-27 and Genesis 1:2-3?

Answer: the earth is without form and there is no light

Jeremiah, the prophet, seems to be seeing a vision of the end-times which from appearances look remarkably like the beginning-times.

"I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end."
11. Maybe... Maybe not... 50/50 chance of being right here. So, for $64,000.00 - According to 1 Peter 1:13-16 in the King James Version of the Bible, it is impossible for man in his present state to be holy, so he should not strive for holiness.

Answer: False

Not true, according to 1 Peter 1:13-16 (KJV), which reads:

"Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."

This is almost a direct quotation from Leviticus 19:2 - "Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy."

My thinking on this is that if it was an impossible task, God would never have commanded such a thing to man. The implication is that if we, who are not perfect, remain alive in Him, then we BECOME holy, just as He is.
12. Another T/F. Designed to trip you up, of course. For $125,000.00 - In 1 John 1:5-10, the King James Version of the Bible states that it is possible for even those people who claim to have Christ as their Saviour to commit sin.

Answer: True

Of course it is possible! People are still flesh and blood, and far from perfected beings as yet.

In 1 John 1:5-10, the Bible tells us plainly that all people are capable of sin. There is NO special group, NO special religious order, NO special doctrinal teaching and NO special exceptions to the rule. ALL people can sin; therefore John, in the King James Version of the Bible says the following:

"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."
13. Shazam! Who is this woman? Was she a U.S. Marine or what? For $250,000.00 - The prophet Hosea had several children by the disreputable woman, Gomer. (God had commanded him to marry her, even though she was a woman of ill-repute.) "And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD." They had at least three children, but what I want to know is this: What was their second son's name and what did his name mean?

Answer: Loammi - "not my people"

In Hosea 1:9-11 we read, "Then said God, Call his name Loammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God.
Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.
Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel."

The other names -- Benoni, Jezreel and Loruhamah -- are correctly associated with their meanings. Benoni was last-born of Israel's children, so named by his mother as she died during his birth. His father, Israel, later changed it to Benjamin, meaning "son of my right hand".

Jezreel was the first-born son of Hosea and Gomer, and Loruhamah was their daughter.

(I believe that Hosea was commanded to marry Gomer so that he would have a first-hand experience as to how God felt, as His chosen people were "cheating" on him as they pursued other gods. Perhaps, Hosea was able to convey that feeling of betrayal to the people in some way or another.)
14. Mull, think, ponder; then maybe even read it first. For $500,000.00 - Jesus once healed a woman while he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. The ruler of the synagogue was indignant at what he perceived to be Jesus' audacity of healing someone on the sabbath, a holy day. After Jesus called him a hypocrite and verbally reprimanded him, what was the reaction of those who opposed Him? (Luke 13:10-17, King James Version)

Answer: they were ashamed of themselves

"And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

"And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

"The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

"And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him."
15. Whoo-Hoo! Well, here it comes! For a whopping $1,000,001.00 - In order to live up to the quiz title, what chapter in the book of Proverbs could I use to argue that a wise person who follows God is "richer than a millionaire?"?

Answer: Chapter 8

While many of the proverbs in this book relate to poverty and riches, those found in chapter 8 seem to say it succinctly. The wealth spoken of is not that of material gain, but instead it pertains to God's wisdom and the knowledge of Him as Creator of all things.

In verses 10-11 we read: "Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it."

And in verses 18-21, we have, "Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures."
