Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which church received this warning in their "text"? "I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first."

Answer: Thyatira

This text is found in Revelation 2:19. The key to this question is their works. One of the only attributes that is commended in their letter is their works.
2. Which church is given this promise in their "text"? "To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it."

Answer: Pergamos

This text is found in Revelation 2:17. This is one of the most mysterious (and fascinating!) promises given to any of the churches for those who will follow Christ.
3. Which church is remembered in their "text" as "having left their first love"?

Answer: Ephesus

This text is found in Revelation 2:4. The church of Ephesus was commended for many things. This was the only rebuke given to this church.
4. Which church had this commendation in their "text"? "...that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate."

Answer: Ephesus

This text is found in Revelation 2:6. This is one of the many attributes of the Ephesus church that they were commended for.
5. Which church is encouraged in their "text" to "...buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear..."?

Answer: Laodicea

This text is found in Revelation 3:18. The letter says this because, in the previous verse, the church is described as saying, "I am rich, and increased with goods." The Lord tries to show this church how much they truly need Him.
6. Which church name really means "brotherly love"?

Answer: Philadelphia

All right, so you don't have to be a scholar on the book of Revelation to figure this question out, but I think the name says a lot about how the church conducted themselves. The church at Philadelphia receives its text starting in Revelation 3:7.
7. Which church is sent the "text" that says, "I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich)"?

Answer: Smyrna

This text is found in Revelation 2:9. This is in contrast to the church of Laodicea who thought that they were rich, but were really described as being "naked". The church of Smyrna, in contrast, felt persecuted, but were called "rich".
8. Which of the churches has this text? "Thou hast a few names even in __________ which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy."

Answer: Sardis

This text is found in Revelation 3:4. This is both a rebuke and a promise of hope. It is a sad message and a poor testimony of the church of Sardis that only a "few names" have not defiled their garments. However, it is also a hopeful promise for the few who did follow Christ in that church.
9. Which church receives this rebuke in their "text"? "But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam..."

Answer: Pergamos

This text is found in Revelation 2:14. The church of Pergamos was rebuked by the Lord because they let other foreign doctrines (the doctrine of Balaam) inside of their church.
10. How do all of the texts begin? "Unto the ___________ of the church of (church name) write." Fill in the blank from the King James Version.

Answer: angel

This is kind of a tricky question. While many people believe that the "angel" of each church represents its pastor, the word used in the King James Version is "angel".
