Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sarah is the only woman in the Christian Bible to have her age recorded at death.

Answer: True

True. Sarah was 127 years old when she died and she is the only woman in the Christian Bible to have her age recorded at death. Details about her death can be found in Genesis 23:1. A number of men have their ages recorded when they died. For example, Adam was 930 years old when he died, Methusaleh was 969 years old and Joseph was 110. (Genesis 5:5, 5:27 50:22)
2. According to Scripture, Ruth and Orpah were sisters.

Answer: False

False. There is no mention in Scripture of Ruth and Orpah being sisters. They were sisters-in-law, however, with the two women married to the sons of Elimelech and Naomi. Scripture states Ruth and Orpah were both from Moab while Elimelech, Naomi and their sons Mahlon and Chilion were from Bethlehem.
3. Ben Hur was one of twelve governors who served under Solomon.

Answer: True

True. 1 Kings 4:7-21 tells of twelve governors serving under Solomon, king of Israel, with one of the governors being Ben-Hur, who ruled in the mountains of Ephraim. According to Verse 7, each of the twelve governors provided food for the king and his household for one month of the year.
4. After the death of Haman, Mordecai became king of Persia.

Answer: False

False. Mordecai was promoted by King Ahasuerus, but he never did become king. While the exact title for the position Mordecai was promoted to isn't given in Scripture, it's abundantly apparent he served a key role in the Persian kingdom. Esther 9:4, for example, states Mordecai "was great in the king's palace, and his fame spread throughout all the provinces; for this man Mordecai became increasingly prominent."

Mordecai, of course, was the cousin of Queen Esther and the two of them teamed up to prevent an evil plan by Haman from coming to fruition. As part of the plan, Haman called for the extermination of all the Jews in the massive Persian empire that stretched from India to eastern Africa.
5. The first five books in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible are known as the Pentateuch.

Answer: True

True. The first five books of the Old Testament of the Christian Bible are known as Pentateuch. The five books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Pentateuch means simply "five books". Tradition holds the books were written by Moses.
6. Jesus and John the Baptist never met.

Answer: False

False. Jesus and John the Baptist were related and according to Scripture, it was John who baptized Jesus in the Jordan River. It is generally perceived that Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Elizabeth, the mother of John, were cousins.

An account of John baptizing Jesus can be found in Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11 and Luke 3:21-22.
7. Jesus and His disciples sang a hymn at the conclusion of the Last Supper.

Answer: True

True. According to Matthew 26:30, at the conclusion of the Last Supper a hymn was sung and then they went out to the Mount of Olives. No details are given about the hymn Jesus and His disciples sung, although many scholars believe it was based on the words of one of the Psalms. Scripture goes on to tell of Jesus being betrayed by Judas Iscariot and then arrested, humiliated, tortured and crucified. Three days later, however, He would miraculously arise from the dead.
8. Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, credited Priscilla and Aquila with saving his life.

Answer: True

True. In Romans 16:4, Paul states Priscilla and Aquila "risked their own necks for my life", but no details are given. Paul goes on to state he, as well as all the churches of the Gentiles, were grateful for the husband-and-wife team.

According to Acts 18:2, Aquila was a Jew who was ordered deported from Italy by Claudius. Meanwhile, Verse 5 goes on to state Priscilla and Aquila were both tentmakers, an occupation shared by Paul.
9. The disciple Thomas is mentioned a number of times in various books in the New Testament written by Paul.

Answer: False

False. Thomas is not mentioned once in the thirteen books Paul is credited with writing in the New Testament. Thomas' name, however, can be found in all four Gospels as well as the book of Acts.

Thomas was one of the original Twelve Disciples and he is best remembered for his stubborn refusal to believe reports about the resurrection of Jesus. (See John 20:24-29 for details.)
10. Barnabas, known for being an encouragement to others, was also a generous giver in the early church.

Answer: True

True. Barnabas, a native of Cyprus, was a generous giver in the early church. According to Acts 4:37, Barnabas owned an unstated amount of land, sold it, and laid the proceeds at the apostle's feet. His real name was Joses, but the disciples nicknmaed him Barnabas, which means Son of Encouragement. (In the NIV, his name is given as Joseph, rather than Joses.)

Using the NKJV, Barnabas' name appears twenty-nine times, a testament to the key role he played in the early church.
