Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to St John's Gospel, Peter and another disciple ran to the tomb when they were told it was empty. Peter reached the tomb first. True or False?

Answer: False

The 'other disciple' is thought to be John, 'the disciple Jesus loved'. Though he reached the tomb first, he didn't venture {inside;} Peter was the first to enter. See John 20:4.
2. When Mary Magdalene first saw Jesus after his resurrection, who did she think he was?

Answer: Gardener

It was only when Jesus addressed her as Mary that she recognized who he was. In return she addressed him as 'Teacher'. See John 20:15.
3. Two followers of Jesus were walking to a village when the risen Christ appeared to them. At first they didn't recognize him, and they explained to him what had been happening in {Jerusalem;} they then recognized him when he broke bread with them. What was the name of the village?

Answer: Emmaus

Emmaus is now a popular name for retreat centres, where, like the two disciples, people can 'discover' Christ in their lives. See Luke 24:13.
4. According to St Luke's Gospel, from where did Christ ascend to heaven?

Answer: Bethany

Bethany is a short distance form Jerusalem. In his Acts of the Apostles, Luke sites the Ascension at the Mount of Olives. It is understood that this hill was in the vicinity of Bethany. See Luke 24:50, Acts 1:12.
5. Despite having fished all night and catching nothing, Jesus urged his apostles to cast their nets once more. This time they brought in a haul of how many fish?

Answer: 153

Scripture scholars and mathematicians are unable to agree on a possible reason for this particular number. See John 21:11.
