Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This person answered a question with one of his own. Who asked God, "Am I my brother's keeper?"

Answer: Cain

After Cain slew his brother in a fit of rage and jealousy, God approached Cain to make him confess of his sin in Genesis 4:9. After God told Cain he already knew he was guilty in verse 10, Cain didn't repent, but continued to worry about himself. In 4:13 of the King James text, Cain said: "My punishment is greater than I can bear."
2. A man of flesh and blood asked almighty God this: "Shall not the judge of all the earth do right?" Who challenged the Creator with this Query?

Answer: Abraham

Abraham must have had a close relationship with God to utter a challenge such as this in Genesis 18:25. He had already proven his loyalty to God in being willing to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice. But his mettle didn't stop there. He then bartered with God to spare Sodom and Gomorrah if ten righteous people could be found. Lot didn't even satisfy this requirement with a minimum of eight people in his family with his wife, two virgin daughters, and at least two married daughters (which we know because he had "sons" in law).

The Bible only records four people leaving the city.
3. Because of their wickedness, God's chosen people were in the midst of his judgement. A prophet was so anguished that he said: "Ah Lord God! wilt thou make a full end of the remnant of Israel?" What prophet cried out this question to God?

Answer: Ezekiel

In Ezekiel 11:13, Ezekiel was saddened that the nation was being allowed by God to be conquered and dispersed because of the idolatry and the pagan ways they had adopted. God was clear in his instructions to the Israelites to purge the land of the inhabitants of Canaan (because of their idolatrous practices) when the Israelites entered and conquered the land. God seemed to know the end result would be that the Israelites would be made vulnerable to turning away from him and adopting the evil practices of the Canaanites.
4. Who boldly asked God, "Shall I go smite these Philistines?"

Answer: David

In 1 Samuel 23:2, David wanted to rescue the city of Kei'lah. But he not only had to worry about the enemies of Judah, but King Saul as well. Saul owed David nothing but gratitude for his bravery and loyalty, but Saul's disobedience to God and jealousy drove him to insanity at times. Throughout all this, David remained loyal to his God, and his King.
5. Who pondered: "Why is my pain perpetual, and my wounds incurable, which refuseth to be healed?"

Answer: Jeremiah

In Jeremiah 15:18, the prophet cried out this lament to God. Whether it was a physical or emotional ailment we can't be certain. Jeremiah led a very lonely life. He was instructed not to take a wife nor partake in other festivities because of the coming judgement on Israel.

His stern warnings in his God-given messages did not make him popular either. Through all this he remained faithful to God for forty years, and delivered the messages that earned him beatings and imprisonment from an unrepentant people.
6. Name the man who desperately questioned God with this query: "What shall I do with this people? They be almost ready to stone me."

Answer: Moses

It is sometimes hard to sympathize with the Israelites in the book of Exodus. In spite of miracle after miracle, the people doubted and complained. The job of prophet for these people certainly was not to be envied throughout the Old Testament. Moses cried this plea out to God in Exodus 17:4 because of the people complaining about thirst.

This verse precedes the better known verse 6 where Moses struck a rock with his staff and produced water for the people.
7. Who, in his new-found humility, asked God: "Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee?"

Answer: Job

Though earlier in the book of Job, he had righteous indignation with his fair-weather friends and their false assumptions, he crossed the line when he challenged God's motive for his dilemma. After God's first speech to the now humbled Job, he realized how insignificant he and all men were in comparison and chose in Job 40:3,4 to stay silent and listen to the Lord of creation.

He returned to the ways which had made God esteem him to begin with.
8. Who earnestly asked the Lord: "Oh Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?"

Answer: Elijah

In 1 Kings 17:20, Elijah lamented the loss of the son of the widow who had given him food and shelter in the midst of the drought. God gave provision to this Gentile woman who obeyed Elijah's direction to feed him before she prepared food for herself. That was to be her last meal, and she was prepared to starve to death. Miraculously, God never allowed the barrel of flour nor the oil to run out during the famine, because of the woman's obedience to Elijah. Shortly thereafter, Elijah brought her dead son to the roof and breathed life into his body through the power of God.
9. Who lamented: "Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?"

Answer: The Children of Israel

In Judges 1:1, the nation of Israel was without anyone who had come out of the land of Egypt and their captivity. For eighty years, they had strong leaders in Moses and Joshua and the prospect of being without one terrified them. They lost sight that through it all, God was in control, not the men He put in charge.
10. Who made this plea to an angry God: "Oh God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and be wroth with all the congregation?"

Answer: Moses and Aaron

In Numbers 16:22, Moses and Aaron pled for the entire nation after the rebellion led by Korah. Korah and his cohorts were covetous of the high priestly duties and tried to usurp the authority God had given Aaron and Moses. God eventually dispatched the insurrectionist and his band by having the earth swallow them up.
