Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Out of the four names below, which one does not belong as he is not mentioned in the book of Genesis?

Answer: Moses

Moses is the correct answer as there is no mention of him in the book of Genesis. The first mention of Moses in the Old Testament is Exodus 2:10. Adam, Lot and Joseph are all featured in the book of Genesis.

Moses, along with his brother Aaron and sister Miriam, led the Israelites on a forty-year-long journey out of Egypt to Canaan, known as the Promised Land.
2. Out of the four names below, which one does not belong as he was not a king in the Old Testament?

Answer: Jonathan

David, Rehoboam and Zedekiah were all kings in the Old Testament but Jonathan never served in such capacity. This even though Jonathan was a son of Saul, the first king of Israel, and was in line to replace his father. However, Jonathan's ascension to the throne never took place as Scripture tells of him dying, along with his two brothers and his father, in a heated battle with the Philistines. Jonathan is perhaps best known for being David's best friend.
3. Out of the four names below, which one does not belong as he was not a judge of Israel?

Answer: Gershom

Gershom was a son of Moses and Zipporah and not a judge of Israel. According to Exodus 2:22, Moses called his son Gershom for "I have been a stranger in a foreign land." Gershom was born in Midian where Moses fled to from Egypt after he had murdered a man.

Gideon, Ehud and Tola were all judges of Israel.
4. Out of the four names below, which one was not a prophet of God?

Answer: Barzillai

Barzillai was a good friend of David, but not a prophet of God. 2 Samuel 17:27-29 tells of David and his supporters being on the run during a bloody civil war with Barzillai offering desperately needed supplies.

Elijah, Nathan and Micaiah were all prophets of God. Elijah is best known for his battle with four-hundred and fifty prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel while Nathan is perhaps best known for rebuking David after he had committed adultery with Bathsheba and orchestrated the death of her husband Uriah. Meanwhile, Micaiah is best known for his accurate prophecy pertaining to the death of Ahab, as per 1 Kings 22 and 2 Chronicles 18.
5. Out of the four names below, which one does not belong as she was not a queen like the other three?

Answer: Cozbi

Athalia and Esther were queens in the Old Testament while Candace was a queen in the New Testament.

However, Cozbi was never a queen, although her father was a leader of the Midiantes. Numbers 25 tells of Cozbi causing at least one Israelite man, Zimri, to commit harlotry. Verse 15 states she was the daughter of Zur, a leader of her people. The chapter tells of Phinehas being outraged by the harlotry and running a spear through Zimri that also penetrated into Cozbi, killing her as well.
6. Out of the four books below, which one does not belong as it was not written by a member of the original Twelve Disciples?

Answer: Philemon

Philemon was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. The book is actually a letter that was addressed to Philemon, the owner of the run-away slave Onesimus who ended up becoming a Christian.

The Gospel of Matthew, the Gospel of John and 1 Peter were all written by members of the original Twelve Disciples.
7. Out of the four names below which one, going strictly by Scripture, does not belong as he did not serve alongside Paul in spreading the Gospel message?

Answer: Thomas

There is no account in Scripture of Thomas serving alongside Paul in spreading the Gospel message. Thomas is mentioned in all four Gospels, but after this there is no mention of him, with the exception of Acts 1:13. The verse is simply a list of names of the disciples after the death of Judas Iscariot.

Paul, in various books he is credited with writing, makes mention of Timothy, Luke and Epaphroditus serving alongside him in the early church.

Yes, it's possible Thomas served along side Paul, but going strictly by Scripture, he has to be the odd man out.
8. Out of the four names below, which one does not belong as Jesus did not appear before him when He was on trial prior to His crucifixion?

Answer: Caesar

Scripture tells of Jesus appearing before Caiaphas, Herod and Pilate prior to his crucifixion, but never before Caesar. John 18:19-24 and Matthew 26:57 tell of Jesus appearing before Caiaphas and the Pharisees. Later Christ would appear before Pilate, as per John 18:28. Scripture goes on to tell of Christ appearing before Herod in Luke 23:7 before being returned to Pilate in Luke 23:11-12.

Herod and Pilate were both Roman governors with one serving over Jerusalem and the other over Galilee. Shortly after Christ's second appearance before Pilate He was taken to Calvary to be crucified.
9. Out of the four New Testament books listed below, which one does not belong as it was not written by Paul?

Answer: Acts

Acts was written by Luke, not by Paul. Luke is also the author of the Gospel that bears his name. Meanwhile, Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles is credited with writing thirteen books in the New Testament. In order of appearance, the books are: Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon.

Some scholars believe Paul also wrote Hebrews but there is no conclusive proof.
10. Out of the four names below, which one does not belong as he was not a member of the original Twelve Disciples?

Answer: Mark

Mark, who was also known as John Mark, is the correct answer. Matthew, Bartholomew and Judas Iscariot were all members of the original Twelve Disciples. Matthew was also known as Levi and Bartholomew was also known as Nathanael.

Mark was a cousin of Barnabas, as per Colossians 4:10. The two men were workers in the early church and Mark is the writer of the Gospel that bears his name.
