Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you have a lot of phobias (about twenty) and don't want to list all of them, you could just say you have what?

Answer: Polyphobia

Polyphobia, the fear of many things, is an easy way for people with many phobias to sum it all up. Pantophobia is similar, but is a fear of absolutely everything.
2. A phobia that isn't a phobia at all: what would you say a person has if they prefer to be in a fearful situation?

Answer: Counterphobia

Someone with counterphobia is afraid, but would rather be in that fearful situation than a much safer one. They call it counterphobia, I call it masochism. Just the opposite is phobophobia... the fear of fear itself.
3. Upon visiting an aquarium, you see a large mollusk with suction cups on its legs. This creature scares you witless. When you leave the aquarium, one of the nine cars parked there leaves... leaving you even more terrified as you see the other cars. A nearby frozen pond has kids skating in double loops... scarier still! What phobia do you most likely have?

Answer: Octophobia

Octophobia, the fear of the number eight, encompasses everything from octopi (the creature in the tank) to groups of eight (the number of cars still there). The shape of a figure eight would also send this phobic into a panic.
4. Which phobia would a vampire not have?

Answer: Eisoptrophobia

Eisoptrophobia is the fear is seeing oneself in the mirror. Since vampires cast no reflection, they wouldn't need to have this fear. Alliumphobia is the fear of garlic, Xylophobia is the fear of wooden objects (such as a wooden stake), and Hagiophobia is a fear of holy things. Similar to Hagiophobia is Staurophobia, which is the fear of crosses or a crucifix.
5. Let's say you marry someone who doesn't ever want to leave their house. After much persuasion, you get them to go outside. Now they won't go back in. What phobia do they most likely have?

Answer: Nostophobia

Nostophobia, derived from the term "Nostalgia", is the fear of returning home. Becoming a recluse would be an easy way to avoid confronting this fear. Eicophobia is the fear of home surroundings, Ecophobia is the fear of the very concept of a home, and Domatophobia is the fear of being in a house.
6. Someone with macrophobia would probably have this phobia as well?

Answer: Apeirophobia

Macrophobia, the fear of long waits, would probably have Apeirophobia, which is the fear of infinity. They might also have Liticaphobia (fear of lawsuits) or Didaskaleinophobia (fear of going to school), since those can take a while.
7. An egotistical person would have all of these fears except which one?

Answer: Scoptophobia

Kakorrhaphiophobia is the fear of defeat or failure. Athazagoraphobia is the fear of being ignored. Atelophobia is the fear of imperfection. Scoptophobia is the fear of being seen... something someone with a big ego would have no trouble doing. Another fear this person might have is Katagelophobia, the fear of being ridiculed.
8. Someone who appears not to think much might have what strange phobia?

Answer: Phronemophobia

Phronemophobia is the fear of thinking. Someone with phronemophobia probably wouldn't do well in school (either that or they'd be scared all the time).
9. Someone who has a relative on kidney dialysis might develop what fear?

Answer: Albuminurophobia

Albuminurophobia is the fear of kidney diseases. Hematophobia is the fear of blood and carcinophobia is the fear of cancer.
10. My sister-in-law must always have someone else drive before traveling from Vancouver, Washington to Portland, Oregon. Out of these phobias, which one does she most likely not have?

Answer: Amaxophobia

Amaxophobia, the fear of riding in cars, is not something she'd have, seeing as how she was traveling in the first place. Potamophobia is the fear of river or running water, and gephyrophobia is the fear of crossing bridges. Anyone who knows where Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon are would know that the only way to get from one to the other is to cross the Columbia River. My sister-in-law actually has gephyrophobia.

She always covers her eyes while crossing a bridge.
