Kulwicki drove the #7 Ford in honor of the Army, Greg Sacks' #18 Chevrolet carried the blue and white of the Navy, Buddy Baker's #88 Olds was the Marines car, Dave Marcis' #71 Chevrolet represented the Coast Guard, and Mickey Gibbs in the #24 Pontiac carried the colors of the Air Force.

Kyle Petty led the most laps, actually after fighting his way back from a lap down after an ill timed pit stop, he was involved with Dale Earnhardt and Davey Allison in a wreck on the back stretch with less than five laps to go, resulting the race ending under caution and giving Ernie Irvan the win.

Ruttman led in the race and finished on the lead lap, one of the better runs of his career.

Hamilton drove the #68 Country Time Oldsmobile, Musgrave drove an unsponsored #55 Pontiac, Robby Gordon, though he did not run NASCAR full time for a few years, ran his first race at Daytona in 1991 in the #90 Publix Ford for Junie Donleavey. This was Sammy Swindell's only Winston Cup start, he was in the #20 Glad Bag Oldsmobile.

Rusty Wallace went to drive for Roger Penske in 1991 in the #2 Miller Genuine Draft Pontiac. He kept the sponsorship of Miller Genuine Draft from the #27 team he had driven for in 1990 under Raymond Beadle's ownership, and he did not switch to Ford until 1994.

This was Darrell Waltrip's first race as a driver/owner in the #17 Western Auto Chevrolet. It was Michael Waltrip's first ride with Pennzoil as his sponsor on the #30 Pontiac, which replaced Country Time and Maxwell House. It was Marlin's first ride in the #22 Maxwell House Ford for Junior Johnson.

Shelmerdine left RCR after the 1992 season to pursue his own driving career, when Andy Petree took over before the 1993 Daytona 500. McReynolds was with Brett Bodine in the #26 Quaker State Buick for Kenny Bernstein during this race. He would work for Robert Yates before working for Richard Childress.

Sammy Swindell spun to bring out the first yellow. He was also involved in a multi-car accident later in the race and was one of the first cars retired from the event.

Hut Stricklin drove the #12 Raybestos Buick for Bobby Allison, Rick Wilson drove the #8 Snickers Buick for the Stavola Brothers, and Brett Bodine drove the #26 Quaker State Buick for Kenny Bernstein. This was Ricky Rudd's first ride in the #5 Tide Chevrolet for Rick Hendrick.

It was Trickle's first ride in Yarborough's car. This race was Rick Mast's first ride in the #1 Skoal Oldsmobile. He took over for Terry Labonte, who went to drive the #94 Sunoco Oldsmobile for Billy Hagan. Todd Bodine was not in this race.

Answer: Geoff Bodine

Geoff Bodine, in the #11 Budweiser Ford, was involved in a crash with Jim Sauter. There was damage to the left rear quarter panel of the car near the fuel tank, and some of the damage apparently allowed fumes to escape from to the cockpit, causing Bodine's unscheduled stop.

Answer: Ken Schrader

Schrader ran over the windshield from Phil Barkdoll's #73 Oldsmobile. Ricky Rudd drove for Hendrick Motorsports but in the #5 Tide ride, Bodine drove the #11 for Junior Johnson, and Richmond used to drive the #25, but was deceased at the time of the 1991 Daytona 500.

Earnhardt was making a pass to try to lead early in the race. Irvan didn't give him as much room as he would have liked, and he shortly passed Allison as well to take over the lead. Jeff Gordon did not run a Daytona 500 until 1993.
