Miikka Kipprusoff is a terriffic goaltender, and has been a cornerstone in the Flames' phenomenal 2004 postseason run. He boasted an impressive 1.69 GAA for the 2004 season.

Darryl Sutter's unique brand of pre-game motivation had brought one of the most unlikely teams to the 2004 Stanley Cup Championships. Darryl first came to the Calgary Flames in 2002, and in 2003 added the role of General Manager to his roster. Prior to coming to the Flames, he was head coach of the San Jose Sharks, which could have only been sweet irony, defeating the team that fired him, in the Western Conference Championship.

The Calgary Flames claimed the Stanley Cup in 1989. The last time the Cup had been in Canada was following the Montreal Canadiens victory in 1993. The Vancouver Canucks almost won the Cup in 1994, but were defeated in Game 7 by the New York Rangers.
6. When did the Calgary Flames become the Calgary Flames?

Answer: May 21, 1980

The Calgary Flames moved to cowtown from Atlanta, Ga. They moved from the Atlanta Omni (cap 15,000) to the Stampede Corral (cap 7,400), and adopted the "Flaming C" logo. Their first game was against the Quebec Nordiques on October 9, 1980 (5-5 tie).

Answer: They didn't. The team were the Flames when they were in Atlanta

The team was called the Atlanta Flames, respective of Civil War days when General Sherman captured Atlanta, and burned the city to the ground. The Calgary franchise chose to carry over the name when the team was moved.

Miikka Kipprusoff was switched for goaltender Roman Turek in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Championship. The Flames suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat, but true to legend, made a complete rebound for Game 3 with a 3-0 shutout to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Martin Gelinas landed the puck against Khabibulin's pad, and many people thought that it had gone in. Unfortunately, Darryl Sutter never got the chance to send the goal upstairs for review before play was resumed. Following the game, Colin Campbell announced that he had reviewed the tape, and that the puck had not crossed the red line, even though many camera angles show that it most certainly had.

Kerry Fraser's questionable tripping call against the Calgary Flames, gave the Tampa Bay Lightning a power play goal, which ultimately won them the 2004 Stanley Cup.
