Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What colours do Collingwood wear?

Answer: Black and white

Collingwood have been wearing these colours since they joined the VFL/AFL in 1897. When Port Adelaide joined the AFL in 1997, they wanted Collingwood to change their colours when the two teams clashed. Needless to say, the historic team got their way and the new kids on the block were told what they were going to be wearing.
2. What colours do Geelong wear?

Answer: Blue and White

The cats theme song includes the line, ""We are Geelong, the greatest team of all...".
3. What colours do the Sydney Swans wear?

Answer: Red and White

Sydney's theme song commences with the line, "cheer, cheer the red and the white."
4. What is the primary colour of Fremantle's away jumper?

Answer: White

This jumper was only introduced in recent years. Originally, the Fremantle away jumper was a concoction of various colours that looked awful. Hence, the stylistic change!
5. What colours are on the Essendon jumper?

Answer: Red and Black

Essendon had been wearing these colours for many, many decades.
6. What are the St Kilda colours?

Answer: Red, White and Black

The Saints home jumper and away jumper were both in these colours. The only difference between the two was the thickness of the stripes. The home uniform has three thick stripes (one of each colour) and the away uniform has many thin stripes of the three colours.
7. What colours and pattern are on the Kangaroos jumper?

Answer: Blue and White, Vertical

The Kangaroos jumper was quite similar to the Collingwood jumper (Black and White vertical stripes). When the two teams play each other, one of the teams wore an alternate jumper to avoid confusion for the crowd and the players.
8. What colours do Richmond wear?

Answer: Yellow and Black

Richmond are famous for their black jumpers with a diagnal yellow stripe. When the team wins and the crowd sings "yellow and black" in the theme song, it is a sound that is near deafening.
9. What colours do the Western Bulldogs wear?

Answer: Blue, Red and White

The Western Bulldogs have changed the style of their uniform quite a few times over the years, but every single version of the jumper has been in blue, red and white.
10. What are the colours that Hawthorn wear?

Answer: Gold and Brown

These colours didn't sound as if they would be a good combination, but they are quite good. They are presented in vertical stripes.
11. In Heritage Round in the 2006 AFL season, what colour were the shorts that Melbourne wore?

Answer: Bright Blue

These were the style of shorts that were worn by the Demons in the 1980s.
12. What are the colours worn by Carlton?

Answer: Navy Blue and White

Carlton's theme song begins with the line "we are the navy blues". The primary colour is navy blue and their logo CFC (carlton Football Club) is printed in white.
13. What are the colours worn by the Brisbane Lions?

Answer: Maroon, Blue and Gold

"We are the pride of Brisbane town, we wear maroon, blue and gold" are the opening lines of the Brisbane Lions theme song. The Brisbane Lions is a malgamation of the Fitzroy Lions and the Brisbane Bears. The two teams merged in 1996 when Fitzroy were going bankrupt.
14. What was the pattern of Geelong's alternate jumper in 1998 that was very unpopular amoungst its fans?

Answer: Mainly dark blue with three white horizontal stripes

The jumpers were worn for Geelong's away games in 1998. The fans did not like them at all because they were nothing like the traditional jumper. Petitions were taken outside "Shell Stadium" (Geelong's home ground) to have the jumper disguarded. In 1999, a new away jumper was designed which was more faithful to the traditional jumper.
15. In 2006, the AFL made all clubs design an alternate jersey for games when two teams have a similar jumper. Which club refused to design a second jumper until they conceded they would have to?

Answer: Collingwood

Collingwood's President Eddie MacGuire tried to cover this up by stating that Collingwood were the first club to present an alternate uniform, but this was after much debating. It just happened that other clubs took more time to create an alternate jumper. In some cases, clubs came up with three or four designs and let their fans choose in a voting system.
