Aberdeen were formed in 1903. They built their stadium in 1889. They are nicknamed the Dons because is because a number of their founding members came from Aberdeen University!
2. Who did Aberdeen beat to win the European Cup Winners Cup in 1983?

Answer: Real Madrid

Aberdeen beat Real Madrid 2-1 in Gothenberg. They became the third Scottish team to win a European trophy. Celtic (European Cup 1967) and Rangers (1972 Cup-Winers Cup) were the first two Scottish Clubs to win a European cup.

Answer: Robbie Winters

Robbie Winters was the top goal scorer with 13 goals. He joined in the 98-99 season from Dundee United.

He was 19 years old and played in either Defence or Midfield. He didn't score any goals that season but was outstanding during the whole season. Alex Ferguson won Aberdeen a total of nine trophies from 1978 to 1986. He won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1983, the League Title three times in 1978-80, 1983-84 and 1984-85, the Scottish Cup four times in 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1986 and also the Scottish League Cup in 1986.

That was Jim Leighton's last ever match for Aberdeen. Jim's first joined Aberdeen way back in 1978! He made 300 appearances for the club. He has also played for Manchester United, Aresnal (loan), Reading (loan), Dundee, Sheffield United (loan) and Hibernian before returning back to Aberdeen in 1997.

He retired from International football in October 1998. He won 91 caps when he played for Scotland. He was Aberdeen's goal keeping coach in 2002.

It also means "Dung Heap" in Gaelic. Pittodrie is also the first stadium to have purpose built manager's dug-outs in 1920! The manager, Donald Coleman, at that time wanted them to see his player's footwork more closely.
