Answer: 1983

The Newtown Jets won their last game in the comp. They beat Canberra 9-6.
2. Who was the first coach of the North Queensland Cowboys when they joined the ARL in 1995?

Answer: Grant Bell

The former New Zealand international only lasted one year at the Cowboys before Graeme Lowe took over in 1996. Tim Sheens coached the Cowboys from 1997 to 2001.
3. Who was Illawarra's captain the year they qualified for the finals for the first time?

Illawarra first made the finals in 1992 - 10 years after they joined the NSWRL competition in 1982. They made the finals again in 1997.

The first game at Parramatta Stadium was in 1986 with Parramatta playing St. George. Steve Sharp scored first for Parramatta. The same year they won the Winfield Cup beating Canterbury 4-2 with that being the first tryless grand final.
5. Who was the coach of Newcastle Knights when they were (re)admitted to the premiership in 1988?

He only lasted until midway through 1991 with Newcastle. He did sign with Illawarra in 1996 but his contract didn't last long as it was torn up before it's completion. Newcastle were a founding member of the NSWRL competition in 1908 (they left after one season).

Answer: Andrew Johns

Newcastle came from 16-4 down at half time to beat Manly-Warringah, with the last pass going to Darren Albert for a memorable win. Darren Albert did it again in 1999 with a last minute try against the Dragons to win a match for the Knights.
7. Who played in five consecutive grand finals from 1989 to 1993?

Answer: Glenn Lazarus

He played with Canberra 1989-90-91 and Brisbane 1992-93 and ended up winning another title with Melbourne in 1999, to become the first person to win the Grand Final with three different clubs.

This was his first Clive Churchill medal, playing for Canberra. He was the first player to win it twice, winning it again in 1991 with Canberra in a losing side. The Clive Churchill medal is won by the best player in the grand final. Brad Clyde is rated one of the best locks to ever lace on a boot.
