Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the most famous redheads: who played for Manly-Warringah and went on to host "The Footy Show" on Channel 9 after his retirement?

Answer: Paul Vautin

"Fatty" Vautin hosted the show with many others: Peter Sterling, Steve Roach, Paul Harragon, the list goes on.
2. I know he's not a real "bluey" (though he did captain them), but which high-profile player dyed his hair red in 1999?

Answer: Andrew Johns

This was around the same time that he was negotiating with the Brisbane Broncos (but we all knew he'd never ever leave his beloved Newcastle Knights!). "Bluey" is an Australian slang term for a redhead (go figure!) and also can be the NSW Blues (State of Origin team) that Joey began captaining in 2002.
3. Which of these players was a handy redheaded utility player for the Canberra Raiders in the early 2000s?

Answer: Alan Tongue

Playing for the "Green Machine" he took part in many premiership campaigns. He scored 8 tries for Canberra in 2002.
4. Which redheaded player's father became head of the NRL Referees Board for the beginning of 2003?

Answer: Brett Finch

His father being Robert Finch. Brett began his first grade career at Canberra Raiders in 1999, and signed with the Sydney Roosters for season 2003. This edged Craig Wing out of his premiership-winning position of halfback from 2002. Some people may consider Brett's hair to be more of a strawberry-blonde.
5. Which redhead won a premiership with the Brisbane Broncos in 2000 playing in the second row?

Answer: Brad Meyers

He was born on the 5th January 1980. He has represented both Queensland in State of Origin and Australia. Brisbane won the grand final in 2000 by beating the Sydney Roosters 14-6.
6. Which of these redheads played for the runners-up with St George-Illawarra in 1999?

Answer: Lance Thompson

He has captained the Dragons many times as well as captaining the City Origin side in 2002. Melbourne beat the Dragons in the historic 1999 clash by 20-18, decided by a last-minute penalty try to Melbourne Storm.
7. Which redhead was a lock for Cronulla Sharks from 1992 until 2003 when coach Chris Anderson dropped him, and he moved to England?

Answer: Nick Graham

Graham and Treister were both dropped (some say unfairly) by Anderson early in the 2003 season. However, Treister was a blonde hooker. Nick Graham was born on the 1st October 1974.
8. Which redhead won a premiership with Newcastle Knights in 2001, playing at five-eighth?

Answer: Sean Rudder

He played pivot alongside Andrew Johns at halfback. The Knights beat the Eels 30-24 in the first night Grand Final. Rudder was born on the 13th February 1979, and debuted for Newcastle in 1998. He passed 100 career first grade games in 2002.
9. This man played wing for Canterbury and North Sydney for a long time. He also played for Australia. Who is he?

Answer: Brett Dallas

He played for Canterbury from 1992 to 1995 and for Norths from 1996 to 1999. He scored 64 tries in total.
10. Is the gene for red hair dominant or recessive?

Answer: Recessive

This is the main reason why so few people have red hair. I learned this in Science at school several years ago. Sometimes the hair colour can be a mutation, though.
