1. Who was the first switch-hitter to get 3000 career hits?

Answer: Pete Rose

Rose reached this plateau in 1978 with the Reds. Pete was also the first switch-hitter to get 4000 career hits in 1984.
The others were not switch-hitters, and Ryan was a pitcher.
2. Who won the 2003 World Series MVP Award?

Answer: Josh Beckett

Beckett was in his 3rd season of baseball, all with the Marlins. He won game 6 in the 4-2 Florida win over the Yankees.
3. In 1974, what Dodger pitcher became the first pitcher in history to appear in 100 games in a season?

Answer: Mike Marshall

The other pitchers did not play in 1974. Marshall appeared in a record setting 106 games. He only pitched in 208 innings, and ended the season with a record of 15-12. This was his first season in a Dodger uniform, as he came from the Expos the previous season. He won the National League Cy Young Award for his efforts.
4. Who was the first player to hit a pinch-hit home run in a World Series game?

Answer: Yogi Berra

The others listed never played in a World Series game. Yogi was in his 2nd season with the Yankees when he popped a pinch-hit four-bagger in 1947 against the Dodgers in game 3. The Yankees beat Brooklyn 4 games to 3.

Answer: Warren Spahn

The others had not started their careers yet. Spahn was in his 19th season, and in a Braves uniform when he went an amazing 23-7 in 1963. Born on April 23, 1921, he retired in 1965. His career win-loss record was 363-245.
9. Which of these teams was once named the Baltimore Orioles?

Answer: New York Yankees

The franchise began in 1901 with the Oriole name. In 1903, they became the New York Highlanders until the infamous Yankee name appeared in 1913. The following season in 1914, Babe Ruth was a rookie with the Red Sox, and destiny began its course.

Answer: Roger Clemens

Clemens did the almost impossible in 2001, by going 20-3. At one point he was 20-1 in the season with the Yankees. He won the American League Cy Young Award for the season.
