Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the first driver ever to win the Brazilian Grand Prix?

Answer: Carlos Reutemann

Reutemann (Brabham-Ford) won the 1972 Brazilian GP. It was a non-championship race, however. The first championship GP was won by Fittipaldi (Lotus-Ford) in 1973.
2. Brazilian F1 star Ayrton Senna took a long time to earn his first home win, but he did it at last. How many times did he win the Brazilian Grand Prix?

Answer: Twice

He won the race in 1991 and 1993, both for McLaren.
3. Which local driver ran out of fuel while leading the Brazilian Grand Prix?

Answer: Rubens Barrichello

Barrichello (Ferrari) had a problem with the fuel system in the 2003 GP.
4. In the 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix, two drivers had a heated argument after a collision on the first lap. Who were they?

Answer: Jarno Trulli & Adrian Sutil

Trulli (Toyota) and Sutil's (Force India) argument went on to the Abu Dhabi GP, where they exchanged not so polite words at the press conference.
Trulli collided with Sutil on the side while trying to pass on the outside, which prompted the German to spin off and hit the Italian's car. It caused both to withdraw from the race. Sutil's car also hit Alonso's (Renault) on the way as well.
5. Interlagos was not the only track ever to host the GP. Which other track hosted it?

Answer: Jacarepagua

The Autodromo de Jacarepagua, later renamed Autodromo Nelson Piquet (though that name never really caught on) hosted the Brazilian GP from 1978 to 1990.
Alain Prost was the greatest winner on that track.
6. In 2009, the World Driver's Champion was crowned at the Brazilian GP. This was the ______ time that this happened.

Answer: 4; Alonso, Raikkonen, Hamilton & Button

Alonso (Renault) was crowned in 2005 and 2006, while Raikkonen (Ferrari) in 2007, Hamilton (McLaren) in 2008, and Button (Brawn) in 2009.
7. Ayrton Senna won the 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix even though he had a major problem with his McLaren. What went wrong?

Answer: He lost all gears but the 6th

Senna had a large gap separating him and 2nd place Mansell (Williams), which enabled him to hold the car on track and cross the line ahead. A few more laps and Mansell would have gone by easily.
8. One of the most controversial Brazilian GPs was the 2003 edition. One driver was crowned winner, and the decision was later changed as the stewards re-analyzed the video footage. Which driver was declared winner, and which actually won?

Answer: Kimi Raikkonen, Giancarlo Fisichella won

The race was interrupted after an accident, and at the time the stewards considered Raikkonen (McLaren) was leading the race. But after examining the footage from the moment of the accident, the evidence showed that it was Fisichella (Jordan) that led the race at that point. The trophy was handed to him at the next round, the San Marino GP.
9. Which celebrity failed at presenting the chequered flag to race winner Michael Schumacher at the 2002 Brazilian GP?

Answer: Pele

Pele was ready for the chequered flag, but missed as winner Michael Schumacher's car (Ferrari) passed by.
10. Which company was responsible for refurnishing the Interlagos circuit, in order to bring it back to the calendar?

Answer: Shell

The Dutch oil company paid for the works necessary to bring Interlagos back to the F1 calendar in 1991.
