Brian won Olympic silver in 1984 in Sarajevo, second to Scott Hamilton of the USA. Brian won the short and long programs, but was second overall due to a seventh place in compulsory figures, then worth 30%. In 1988, he placed second to Brian Boitano in the much-touted "Battle of the Brians" by one-tenth of a point.
2. Where did Brian Orser finish in the 1987 World Figure Skating Championships?

Brian won the 1987 World Championships in Cincinatti, Ohio. Brian Boitano placed second.
3. What was the name of the musical selection Brian used for his short program in the 1988 Olympic Games?

Answer: Sing, Sing, Sing

Brian has skated to all four of these selections, but "Sing, Sing, Sing" was his 1988 short program. His long program was to "The Bolt."
4. Which skating tour did Brian join upon turning professional after the 1988 World Championships?

Answer: Stars on Ice

Brian joined "Stars on Ice," which was quite new at that time. Its purpose was to showcase the skaters and their routines rather than an assortment of varied entertainment.
5. Which siblings did Brian grow up with?

Answer: two brother and two sisters

Brian grew up as the youngest of five children. His siblings were Janice, Bob, Michael, and Mary Kay.
6. Where was Brian born?

Answer: Belleville, Ontario, Canada

Brian was born in Belleville on December 18, 1961. His family moved to Midland and later to Penetanguishene. At one point, the seven Orsers lived in a three-bedroom house with one bathroom!
7. At what age did Brian leave home to train in figure skating?

Answer: 16

Brian left home to train with Doug Leigh in Orillia. Doug had been Brian's coach since age nine, but Brian's training became more intensive when he won his Canadian Novice championship in 1977.
8. What jump was Brian's most difficult in the 2000 Winter Goodwill Games?

Answer: triple axel

Although Brian was known to do the quad toe in practice during his amateur years, he never put one into a competitive program. His trademark jump was the triple axel. By the time the 2000 Goodwill Games rolled around, Brian was pushing 40!
9. With what artistic program did Brian win the Canadian Open in December 2001?

Answer: "Somewhere in Time"

All of these have been Brian's programs at one time or another. "Somewhere in Time" takes a look at compulsory figures. "Dear Father" is one of his classics, as is "The Story of My Life," which first appeared in 1988 but was revisited after his mother passed away; it was her favorite program.
10. What triple jump did Brian always claim to find most challenging?

Answer: triple flip

Brian claims in his autobiography "A Skater's Like" that the jump that troubled him most was the triple flip, and it was the latest of all the triples to be included in his amateur programs. It can be argued that a slight bobble on the triple flip may have cost him the 1988 Olympic title.
