Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Until the re-alignment in 2013, how did you figure out where a team is seeded in the SECOND round of the playoffs?

Answer: the highest seeded team remaining is seeded with the lowest seed remaining, then the next-highest with the next-lowest remaining

The first round is seeded in a similar way: the first seeded team plays the eighth seeded team (in their conference, of course), the second seeded team plays the seventh seeded team, and so on.

Until 2013 the NHL comprised two conferences of three divisions apiece. It then became a four-division, two-conference system.
2. How is shooting percentage calculated?

Answer: dividing total goals by total number of shots taken

3. How is power play percentage determined?

Answer: dividing the number of PP goals by the number of PP opportunities

The power play percentage is basically how many of the power play opportunities were converted into goals.
4. How is a goalie or team's goals-against average calculated?

Answer: multiply the total number of goals allowed by 60, divide that by the minutes played

5. How is a goalie or team's save percentage calculated?

Answer: divide the total number of saves made by shots against

You can calculate number of saves by subtracting the total goals against from the total shots against.
