Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who plays for the trophy known as the Floyd of Rosedale?

Answer: Iowa and Minnesota

The trophy itself is a bronze statue of a pig.
2. Which two college teams compete for the Telephone Trophy?

Answer: Missouri and Iowa State

Before the 1959 game, it was discovered that the phones for the coaches to communicate with their coaches in the press box were wired so the teams could hear what the other side's coaches were saying. The trophy depicts an old rotary telephone (painted half yellow for Missouri and half red for ISU) on a wooden base.
3. Which rivalry plays for the James E. Foy, V-ODK Sportsmanship Trophy?

Answer: Alabama and Auburn

This trophy started in 1948 and is awarded at the home basketball game of the winning school. It is presented by the president of the school's Omicron Delta Kappa honor society chapter (hence the ODK of the trophy's name).
4. Which rivalry winner is awarded the Fremont Cannon?

Answer: Nevada and UNLV

This trophy series began in 1969. The trophy is a replica of a 19th century Howitzer cannon that accompanied John C. Fremont on an expedition into what is now the state of Nevada.
5. Which in-state rivalry competes for the Iron Skillet?

Answer: TCU and SMU

The trophy dates back to the 1950s when during pre-game festivities (tailgating), a SMU fan was frying some frog legs. A TCU fan proposed that the fan (between the two) of the team that won the game get to keep the pan and eat the frog legs. The SMU fan agreed and lost his pan when TCU was victorious.
6. Which rivalry plays for the Golden Hat?

Answer: Texas and Oklahoma

The trophy was created in 1941 and is one of three trophies associated with the Longhorns-Sooners rivalry. It is a gold cowboy hat mounted on a block of wood.
7. Which two storied programs meet annually for the Jeweled Shillelagh?

Answer: Notre Dame and USC

One of the oldest trophies (1926) is played for between USC and Notre Dame.
8. Which two teams meet to decide who wins the Old Brass Spittoon?

Answer: Michigan State and Indiana

The trophy originated in 1950 and this is one of the most lopsided rivalries in college football.
9. Which schools play for the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy?

Answer: Air Force, Army and Navy

One of the more famous trophies, the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy is awarded to the academy that beats both the other two academies. If each team wins one of the two games, the team that won the trophy the previous year keeps it.
10. Which in-state rivalry winner is awarded the Golden Egg?

Answer: Mississippi and Mississippi State

The "Egg Bowl" is between Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The trophy is known as such because the football on the trophy is a replica of an older football, which resembled an egg more than that of a modern oblong football.
