Answer: Huskies

At the time the school was called St. Cloud Teachers College. The team went 1-7-0 in their first season. The Huskies were successful as a Division III and Division II hockey team and moved up to Division I in 1990, entering into the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Mavericks moved to Division I hockey starting in the 1996-97 season. They have had a varsity team since the 1969-70 season, and have moved divisions and conferences numerous times before playing in the WCHA. They did win one Division II Tournament Championship in 1980.
