This was the fiftieth test match at Trent Bridge. Edgbaston and Lords hosted the first and second tests of the series respectively, while the fourth is due to be played at Headingley.
2. Who were the two debutants in this test match?

Answer: James Kirtley and Ed Smith

Both Englishmen made an impression on their debuts, with Kent batsman Ed Smith reaching sixty four, while Sussex paceman Kirtley claimed six wickets for thirty four runs on the fifth and final day of play.
3. Which South African bowler took the most wickets?

Answer: Shaun Pollock

Shaun Pollock finished with fantastic figures of six for thirty nine, his best ever bowling performance against England. Andrew Hall claimed three for eighty eight, Makhaya Ntini recorded two for thirty three, and all rounder Jacques Kallis just one for thirty six.
4. Which two players contributed to the highest batting partnership of the game?

Answer: Nasser Hussain and Mark Butcher

These two managed a one hundred and twenty nine partnership, when England were in trouble at twenty nine for two. McKenzie and Boucher also steadied the ship, getting a one hundred and twenty nine partnership, when it looked as though they would be all out for a low total. In the end South Africa got three hundred and sixty two thanks to their efforts.
5. What player registered the highest score in the test?

Answer: Nasser Hussain

The previous England captain made one hundred and sixteen before being dismissed for lbw off Shaun Pollock, now needing only two more centuries to equal Sir Jack Hobb's record. Some thought he should be left out, but answered his critics perfectly. Butcher wasn't far behind with one hundred and six, wicket-keeper Boucher made fifty two and Pollock got sixty two, his second best batting performance against England, only two off equalling his best, sixty four.
6. What player was dismissed from the crease, due to treading on his wicket?

Answer: Graeme Smith

A double centurion in the last test at Lords, South African skipper Smith went for a lowlier thirty five, after he trod on his wicket from an Andrew Flintoff delivery.
7. Which two players were on hat-tricks during the match?

Answer: Andrew Hall and James Kirtley

South African fast medium bowler Hall got rid of Warwickshire's Ashley Giles for twenty two and subsequently dealt with Lancastrian Flintoff. As for the debutant Kirtley, he bowled and caught chinese player Paul Adams, and Andrew Hall went for a duck when he flashed at one, and was caught at slip by Somerset's Marcus Trescothick.
8. Who was the English seam bowler who claimed five wickets in the first South African innings?

Answer: James Anderson

After claiming five wickets on his test debut against Zimbabwe, he was having a hard time in this series, but ended the South African resistance by bowling Hall and Adams, with Pollock caught at slip.
9. How many batsmen were given out during the fourth day's play?

Answer: fourteen

Yes, a massive fourteen wickets. All the England team were dismissed except Trescothick, who was incorrectly given out in the last over of the third day's play. The other five who went were Graeme Smith, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Jacques Rudolph, and Boeta Dippenaar.
10. Who was the only player not to be dismissed at Trent Bridge?

Answer: Makhaya Ntini

The tailender made four and three, totalling seven. Incidentally, England and Lancashire's James Anderson was dismissed for the first time in test cricket, being a victim of Sean Pollock.
