1. This former world (WBA) flyweight champion was killed in an automobile accident while still champion. He was only 23. Who was it?

Answer: Masao Ohba

Just twenty-two days after successfully defending his championship for the ninth time (against Chartchai Chionoi KO-12), the twenty three year old (WBA) world flyweight champion lost control of the automobile he was driving and collided with a truck. The date was 24th January 1973. His final boxing record was 35-2-1. Prior to his death Ohba hadn't lost a fight in 4 1/2 years.
2. Mexico born former (WBC) world flyweight champion Miquel Canto held that title from 1975 until 1979 successfully defending the championship a then record 14 times. Who dethroned him?

Answer: Chan Hee Park

After a long championship reign Canto was finally relieved of his world championship via unanimous 15 round decision on 18 March 1979 in Chan Hee Park's hometown of Pusan Korea. Park granted Canto a rematch on 9th September 1979 again in Park's hometown of Pusar Korea. Canto did better drawing with Park after 15 rounds.

This was Canto's last championship bout. Gonzalez who held the (WBC) flyweight title from 1973-74 went 1-2 against Canto. Shoji Oguma who dethroned Gonzalez of the belt in 1974 lost the belt to Canto in 1975.

He would defeated Canto conqueror Chan Hee Park in 1980 for his second (WBC) world flyweight championship reign. He would lose the championship a year later (in 1981).

Answer: Sadao Yaoita

Yaoita handed the undefeated world champion his first professional defeat scoring a 10 round decision on 16th January 1959 in Tokyo Japan. He was stopped by Perez in a world title rematch ten months later in 13 rounds of a scheduled 15 rounder. Harada who won the championship from Pone Kingpetch in late 1962 is only a hand full of fighters to win a world championship while still under the drinking age (19).

He and Perez never met. Kingpetch decisioned Perez in April of 1960 for the belt. He successfully defended against the aging Perez five months later stopping the former champion in 8 rounds. Yoshio Shirai while world flyweight champion drew with Perez in a non title 10 rounder in July 1954.

He granted Perez a title match in November of that year and lost his belt via 15 round decision. Perez granted Shirai a third bout with himself on 30th May 1955 (for the championship) totally dominated it, stopping the former title holder in five rounds.

Arbachakov who prior to losing his (WBC) flyweight championship to Chatchai Sasakul on 12 November 1997 by decision, narrowly defeated his bitter rival Sasakul by 12 round decision on 25th September 1995.
5. This boxer died while he was still world flyweight champion. He was only 23 years old. Who is he?

Answer: Pancho Villa

Villa, born 1st August 1901 in Lloilo Philippines birth name is Francisco Guilledo (he was renamed by his boxing mgr.). While training for a non title fight (against Jimmy McLarnin) Villa's face became swollen due to an ulcerated tooth. Despite his swollen face he fought McLarnin anyway losing a 10 round decision.

A few days later Villa visited the dentist to have a couple of teeth extracted when an infection was discovered. Unknown to him the infection had already spread to his throat and while out partying with his friends he became sick.

After first being rushed to the hospital he was further rushed into surgery where he fell into a coma. He passed away the following day 14th July 1925. He was the second Filipino boxer to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

He received that honor in 1994 (Flash Elorde was the first, in 1993).

Answer: Jimmy Wilde

While all of these men held the world flyweight championship at one time or another. Britain's Jimmy "The Mighty Atom" Wilde is the first champion to be recognized by both the USA and Europe when he defeated the U.S. flyweight champion Young Zulu Kid stopping the American in the 11th round of a scheduled twenty rounder.

This bout took place at the Holborn Stadium in London England on 18th December 1916.

The power punching "Pac Man" gained his first world championship (WBC Flyweight) when on 4th December 1998 in Phuttamonthon Thailand he stopped defending champion Chatchia Saskul in the eighth round of their scheduled twelve rounder.

While all of these men had over 90 professional fights only Perez fought in the US and that was only one time, when on 22nd September 1960 in Los Angeles Ca. he was stopped in eight rounds trying to regain the world flyweight championship he had lost five months earlier to Pone Kingpetch.

Answer: Dado Marino

In his initial attempt at a world championship Dado Marino was decisioned by Rinty Monaghan on 20th October 1947. Seventeen months later in March 1949 he was throughly defeated by bantamweight champion Manuel Ortiz winning only one of 15 rounds. He finally struck gold when he defeated Terry Allen on 1 August 1950 by decision.
10. This fighter fought for a world championship in only his fifth professional bout (WBC light flyweight) losing by decision. He won the (WBC) flyweight championship in only his eighth fight. Who is he?

Answer: Sot Chitala

Chitala was defeated by Korean Jung Koo Chang by decision in only his fifth pro bout. Three fights later the "Thai Thumper" travelled to England and stopped defending champion Charlie Magri in five rounds to win the (WBC) world flyweight championship.
