1. In 2004, what was the capacity of the Subiaco Oval, in Western Australia?

Answer: 43,500

This oval is the home ground of the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Dockers.
2. Which competition gives the Magarey medal for the best and fairest player for the season?

Answer: SANFL

The WAFL (Western Australia) gives the Sandover medal, the TAC cup (Victoria) offers the Morrish medal, and of course the AFL awards the Brownlow medal to the best and fairest. The SANFL is based in South Australia.
3. Which of these people came up with the electric light system for the very first night match?

Answer: Professor Pepper

The electric lighting system was still only new, so the lamps were not very effective. They were large clear lights hung from poles around the ground. The first ever night match was in 1879 and was watched by over 12000 people. The game was between Collingwood Artillery and East Melbourne at the MCG. Professor Pepper installed and controlled the lighting system.
4. How did Sydney get the name "Swans"?

Answer: Because they had so many WA people in their team

They had so many WA people joining the club after the 1933 Premiership that they called the club the Sydney Swans. Yes, thats the Sandgropers, always ones to hop on the bandwagon.

Jason Dunstall began his career in 1985, kicking 36 goals and playing in a losing Grand Final side. He was a champion for Hawthorn over 14 years, playing in 4 premierships and winning 3 coleman medals. His career ended on a bad note, with a knee injury preventing him from playing any longer.

The game ended with Essendon and Melbourne tied on 69 points. Melbourne were given a second chance after Essendon kicked an appalling 7.27, with Bill Brittingham scoring 2 goals 12 behinds. Melbourne won the replay by 39 points.

Answer: Melbourne

Gordon Coventry retired before the Colman Medal began being awarded.

Gary Dempsey was an amazing player for Footscray and North Melbourne. He won the Browlow Medal only once, in 1975. Dempsey was a very strong marker, once taking 241 marks in one year (1980).
