Answer: Carlton

Carlton has won 16 Grand finals hence 16 Premierships. Essendon have also won 16 Premierships, however, they won the premiership without playing in a Grand Final in the years 1897 and 1924. In those years the Premiership was decided by a Finals' Ladder.
2. How many VFL games did Richmond premiership player, Bill James play?

Answer: 1

Bill James played in the 1920 Grand Final in which Richmond defeated Collingwood. It was both his first and last game, making him the only player to achieve this feat.
3. Which team managed to win both the Premiership and the Wooden Spoon in the same year?

Answer: Fitzroy

Due to World War 1 only 4 teams competed in the 1916 season. Fitzroy had an ordinary season until the finals winning only 2 games. They finished the Home and Away season last. Carlton on the other hand had only lost 2 games and were raging favourites. Fitzroy made it to the Grand Final and defeated Carlton by 29 points.
4. The University team which played early in the VFL era were known as the 'Students'?

Answer: True

University joined the VFL in 1908 along with Richmond. They performed admirably in their first three seasons. With the onset of the war and many of their players at the front line, they disbanded at the end of the 1914 season having lost their previous 51 games. Their remaining players joined Melbourne for the 1915 season.
5. Fitzroy made it into four successive Grand Finals between 1903 and 1906. Who was the successful coach that led this team for those four years?

Answer: Nobody

In the early days of the VFL most teams did not have a coach. In fact, Jack Worrall was the first club appointed coach to lead a team into the Grand Final. That was when he coached Carlton to the Runners up position in the 1904 Grand Final, against the coachless Fitzroy team.
6. Ted Potter played 182 games for Collingwood between 1963-1972. How many goals did he kick during his VFL career?
