Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What VFA (now VFL) club did Barry Round captain-coach after retiring from the VFL (now AFL)?

Answer: Williamstown

Round was to coach the Seagulls quite successful, displaying shades of the form that once won him a Brownlow.
2. What tribunal defence did Rod Grinter give for striking Terry Wallace?

Answer: Grinter thought Wallace's head was the ball

A sickening blow. Wallace was a great player and Grinter wasn't so bad either, when he wasn't suspended.
3. Why were Catholic school children in the 1950s sometimes admonished for supporting Essendon?

Answer: Essendon was considered the Freemasons' team

Ironically, Essendon took their red and black strip from the Paradians, a Catholic school originally in East Melbourne.
4. A hare-brained plot was hatched to train retired footballers to represent Australia at which sport at the 2000 Sydney Olympics?

Answer: Handball

As host nation, Australia was entitled to enter a team in every sport on the program. Australia's regular handball representatives (who never qualify for the Olympics) were not impressed.
5. Hawthorn, Sydney and Collingwood star Dermott Brereton controversially donated money to which organisation?

Answer: The IRA

Dermott Brereton is also a member of almost every AFL club.
