1. 1912: Something relatively unknown happened at Manchester United in this year for the first time, but what was that strange thing?

Answer: United signed a player from Liverpool

In August 1912, half-back Tom Chorlton signed on a free transfer from, Liverpool, who have become in recent times, United's bitter rivals. The only other times this has happened was in 1929 when forward Tommy Reid joined the club, and 1938, when half-backs Ted Savage and Allenby Chilton signed on for free. Also in this year, Ernest Mangnall resigned and J.J.Bentley took over as secretary.
2. 1913: United had their highest league finish for the decade this year, but what position was it?

Answer: 4th

United played 38 games, won 19, drawn 8 and lost 11 times during this campaign, which saw Sunderland clinch the title.
3. 1914: Dick Holden left United to voluntarily fight in World War I. Which of these armed services did he sign up for?

Answer: Royal Air Force

Holden made 117 appearances for the club with no goals to his credit. Also in this year, John Robson became United's manager.
4. 1915: United struggled in the league this year, and finished the season with 30 points. Were they relegated?

Answer: No

United finished 2 points above Tottenham Hotspur, who were relegated into division two.

United paid 6,000 pounds to Ayr United for McBain, but he only stayed for a season, later joining Everton. He played 43 games and scored 2 goals during this one season.
