1. 1932: what position did United finish in the second division?

Answer: 12th

United's record that year was: played 42, won 17, drawn 8, lost 17, and 42 points.
2. 1933: did United reach the FA Cup final this year?

Answer: No

Everton played Manchester City in the FA Cup final, while United were comfortably beaten 4-1 at home against Middlesbrough in the 3rd round.

Answer: Millwall

United beat Millwall 2-0 away from home on the final day of the season to stay in the second division.

The ten forwards signed were: Billy Boyd, Len Bradbury, Reg Chester, Ron Ferrier, Dick Gardner, Tommy Lang, Ben Morton, David Robbie, Stan Pearson and Jackie Wassall. The other three were half-back James Brown, goalkeeper Jack Breedon and full-back Billy Porter.

Answer: Walter Winterbottom

Winterbottom only played 27 games without scoring for United, and went on to manage England between 1946-62. United also became 2nd division champions this year.

'Gunner' Jack Rowley was an expert marksman in front of goal, as well as a World War II anti-tank gunner. He was signed from Bournemouth and Boscombe and amassed 417 games and scored 211 goals between 1937-54, including two goals in the 1948 FA Cup final. He died in 1998 at the age of 79. United were also relegated into the second division this year.

Answer: Sheffield United

Going into the last game, United lay in third, and beat Bury 2-0 on the final day to be promoted at the first time of asking with a goal average of 1.64, while Sheffield United had 1.30 average. It would be another 36 years before United were relegated again.
8. 1939: in the last season before World War II, United were back in the first division. On 11th February, United and Charlton Athletic shared eight goals. What was the final score?

Answer: Charlton 7 United 1

United finished in 14th place with 11 wins, 16 draws and 15 losses from 42 games.

Redwood played for United between 1935-39, and amassed 93 games with 4 goals.
10. 1941: what happened at Old Trafford on 11th March this year?

Answer: Old Trafford was bombed

After the German airforce bombed Old Trafford during World War II, the ground had to be demolished, and rebuilt, and the only thing that survived was the old players tunnel, which still stands today, although disused. United groundshared Maine Road with neighbours Manchester City, until Old Trafford reopened in 1949.
