Answer: Atlanta Chiefs
The Chiefs won the finals over the San Diego Toros. The first leg went 0-0. The Chiefs then scored a 3-0 victory in the second leg to become the first ever NASL champions.

The Spurs were awarded the championship based on points. This was the only year in the league's history where there wasn't a playoff system. The Atlanta Chiefs had the best win/loss record, but the Spurs scored the most points under the scoring system.

The Lancers bested the Washington Darts in the league finals. The Lancers went 9-9 in the regular season, with six ties. They went 3-0 in the first leg of the finals, and despite being outscored 3-1 in the second leg, won the final 4-3.

Tornado was the lower seed, but that didn't stop them from besting the Atlanta Chiefs 2 games to one. It was the first time in the finals for Dallas, and the second for Atlanta. Dallas coach RonNewman was named coah of the year.

New York won the first of what would be five championships in the NASL. They won their division with a 7-3-4 record. In the first round of the playoffs they knocked off the defending champs 1-0 and then won the final 2-1 over the St. Louis Stars.

Dallas and New York, the two previous champions, met in the first round and beat each other up while Philadelphia cruised to the finals. The Atoms knocked off the Tornado 2-0. Both of the Atoms' playoff games were shutouts.

The team from LA knocked off the Miami Toros in a battle of teams that had never made the playoffs before that season. The game ended in a 3-3 tie, with LA winning the shootout 5-3.
8. 1975
Answer: Tampa Bay Rowdies
The Rowdies went through three rounds of the playoffs without allowing a goal. They beat Toronto 1-0, defending champs LA 3-0 and the Portland Timbers 2-0 in the finals.

The playoff format changed to having two conference champs. The conference champs were Toronto and the Minnesota Kicks. Then in the first ever "Soccer Bowl" Toronto was crowned the champion in a 3-0. More than 25,000 fans were in attendance.

Formerly known as the New York Cosmos, the team officially dropped the name prior to the 1977 season. They played simply as the Cosmos for two seasons. Both seasons they were the NASL champs. It was the second and third title for the franchise. At that time, no other team had ever won a second title, let alone back-to-back.

Answer: Vancouver Whitecaps
The Vancouver Whitecaps knocked off the defending champion New York Cosmos (They had taken back the "New York" part of the name that year.) in the semifinals. Then they beat Tampa Bay in the Soccer Bowl for the title.

The franchise won it's third title in four years, and fourth overall. No other team had won a second title yet. This season they bested the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the Soccer Bowl.

It was Chicago's first time in the finals. They knocked off the defending champs 1-0 in the finals. It was the second time a shoot out was needed to decide the NASL championship.

Seattle made its only finals appearance, only to fall victim to New York as it won it's fifth and final championship. The game was 1-0 with Giorgio Chinaglia scoring the only goal.

The Roughnecks won the title in a 2-0 game. They went 5-1 in the playoffs.
The 1984 champions were the Chicago Sting. They would be the final champions of the league, which folded not long after they were crowned. Winning the last ever title, Chicago became only the second franchise to win multiple NASL championships.
The Toronto Blizzard were the runners-up in each of the last two seasons of the league.
