Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 1976
Answer: Montreal Canadiens
Don Cherry is a legendary hockey broadcaster, but he also coached pretty well in his day. Not well enough to beat Scotty Bowman's Canadiens though. Bowman's team won the series in 4 games.
2. 1977
Answer: Montreal Canadiens
Scotty Bowman continued his dynasty in Montreal winning a second title in four years. This also kicked off a long string of dominance for the Canadiens. They bested the Flyers in four games.
3. 1978
Answer: Montreal Canadiens
Cherry led his Boston Bruins back to the finals, where they had a rematch with the now two-time defending champion Canadiens. While the Bruins won two games, they still lost the series in six games.
4. 1979
Answer: Montreal Canadiens
In 1976 the Canadiens bested Fred Sharo's Flyers. Three years later, the Canadiens bested Sharo's New York Rangers. It was the fourth straight championship for Montreal, who lost only three finals games over that stretch.
5. 1980
Answer: New York Islanders
The Islanders won the series over the Flyers in six games. It was the first championship for New York, and started a streak of wins for them. Bob Nystrom had the series-winning goal in game six.
6. 1981
Answer: New York Islanders
After topping the Flyers last year, the Islanders came back to repeat with a 4-1 thumping of the Minnesota North Stars. Wayne Merrick hit the series-winning goal in game five.

Answer: New York Islanders
New York won their third consecutive championship and second sweep with a win over Vancouver. Mike Bossy hit the series-winning goal in game four during the second period.
8. 1983
Answer: New York Islanders
Winning their fourth straight series, this year in a sweep, the Islanders cemented their place in NHL history. This made the Islanders 4-0 in the finals, and spoiled Edmonton's finals debut. It was the third year in a row they beat a team making its finals debut as well.
9. 1984
Answer: Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers met the Islanders for the second straight year but flipped the script this year. They snapped a four-year winning streak for the Islanders. This year the series went five games.
10. 1985
Answer: Edmonton Oilers
This might be the easiest of all the matching quizzes I've done, only three options, and they are all back-to-back. Ho-hum. I didn't pick the champions. This quiz ends with the Oilers winning their second championship in a row. This year the series was over in five games.
