Phil Gould became the youngest First Grade captain in history when he captained Penrith as a 20 Year old in the 1978 season. He had playing stints at Newtown, Canterbury and South Sydney before retiring as a player. As a coach, Gould guided Canterbury to the 1988 premiership in his first year of coaching First Grade, and became the youngest Grand Final winning coach at 30 years old. Phil Gould is regarded as one of the greatest coaches of the modern era, and a brilliant tactician and statisticiin of the modern game.
