Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which team went a perfect 16-0 in the 2007 regular season?

Answer: New England Patriots

2007 was known as 'Spygate', when the NFL accused the Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick of some questionable video taping of other teams. The Patriots went all the way to the Super Bowl, but lost to the Giants.
2. Two great San Francisco 49er quarterbacks were Steve Young and Joe Montana. Young played his entire career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and 49ers. Montana played for the 49ers, then retired which other team?

Answer: Kansas City Chiefs

1985 and 1986 found Young with the Bucs before joining the 49ers for 13 seasons. Steve retired in 1999. Montana began his career with the 49ers in 1979. 14 seasons later he was a Kansas City Chief, and retired as a Chief in 1994.
3. Which number did the great Miami Dolphin Dan Marino wear?

Answer: 13

Marino was a Miami Dolphin quarterback, and the other numbers are not quarterback numbers. From 1983-1999, Marino wreaked havoc on defensive backs with his arm. He was the first quarterback to throw for over 5000 yards in a season also. Dan retired with 420 career touchdown passes.
4. The Cardinals franchise began as the Chicago Cardinals in the APFA in 1920. The franchise moved in 1960 to St. Louis and became the St. Louis Cardinals. In which year did the franchise move to Arizona?

Answer: 1988

They became the Phoenix Cardinals for the 1988 season, and went 7-9 under head coach Gene Stallings. In 1994, the franchise was renamed the Arizona Cardinals under head coach Buddy Ryan.
5. Head coach Vince "What the Hell is going on around here" Lombardi saw 10 NFL seasons. With which team did he win three NFL Championships and two Super Bowls?

Answer: Green Bay Packers

After the Packers lost their legend coach and founder Curly Lambeau in 1949, they searched for 10 seasons before they found Lombardi as a fixture in 1959. In nine seasons with the Packers, Vince never had a losing season. He retired in 1967, then came back as the head coach of the Washington Redskins for only one season in 1969 with another winning season. Lombardi died less than a year later in 1970.
6. The great running back Jim Brown played in only nine seasons in his NFL career. Which team did he play with?

Answer: Cleveland Browns

Brown played for the Browns from 1957-1965. In eight of those nine seasons, Mr. Brown led the NFL in rushing. He also rushed for over 1000 yards in seven of those nine seasons. In five seasons, he also led the NFL in rushing touchdowns. Probably the easiest induction into the Hall of Fame, he was immortalized in 1971.
7. The Tennessee Titans had a great start in the 2008 season, winning their first 10 games before taking a loss to the Jets. Under which team name did they begin their franchise with in the AFL in 1960?

Answer: Houston Oilers

They began it all in 1960, and went 10-4 in their first season with the help of their quarterback arm in George Blanda. In 1962, they lost the AFL Championship game 20-17 to the Dallas Texans. 1997 saw the franchise move to Tennessee under head coach Jeff Fisher and quarterback Steve McNair.
8. In 1994, Minnesota Vikings Cris Carter set a new season record of catching 122 passes in the season. In 1995, that 122 record was tied by Jerry Rice of the 49ers, and again by Cris Carter. However, which receiver out-did them both by having one more reception in 1995, and setting a new record of 123?

Answer: Herman Moore

The others were all kickers in their careers. The Detroit Lion wide receiver had 123 for the season. This would be Moore's season-best, along with his 14 touchdowns. In 12 seasons in the NFL and all but one with the Lions, Herman hauled in 670 receptions for an average of 55.8 per season. He retired in 2002.
9. Which quarterback set a new record in 2007, throwing 440 completions in the season?

Answer: Drew Brees

The others were all retired. Brees was with the 7-9 New Orleans Saints. His 440 completions came from 652 attempts. Marques Colston led the team with 98 of those receptions, and Reggie Bush had 73. Brees broke the record of 2002 Oakland Raider quarterback Rich Gannon, who completed 418 in that season.
10. Which team finished the 2007 season with the worst record?

Answer: Miami Dolphins

The others all went 10-6 in 2007. The Dolphins, under the helm of Cam Cameron, pulled off only one win in the season and went 1-15. Their only win came in Week 15 against the Ravens, 22-16. They were shutout only once in the season, a Week 12 loss to the Steelers of 3-0.
