Answer: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs finished out their first season by going 0-14, which included being shutout five times. 1977 wasn't much better, as they lost their first 12 games of the season before finishing up at 2-12. 0-26 was not a streak for Florida fans to admire. The Bucs' first winning season was in 1979, going 10-6.
2. Which quarterback wore the jersey of the San Francisco 49ers from 1979-1992?

Answer: Joe Montana

Montana took the snaps while Bill Walsh made his head coaching debut in 1979 also. Joe led the team to Super Bowl XIX over the Dolphins, XXIII in a win over the Bengals, and XXIV over the Broncos. What a receiving corps that Montana had with the 49ers with names like Dwight Clark, Freddie Solomon, Roger Craig, Wendell Tyler, and the infamous Jerry Rice. Joe finished out his career with two seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs, and retired in 1994. Steve Young was a 49er from 1987-1999.

Answer: O.J. Simpson

They all rushed for over 2000 yards in a season, but Simpson did it many seasons earlier in 1973. As a member of the Buffalo Bills, O.J. carried the ball 332 times for 2003 yards, an amazing 6.0 average per carry. His second largest season rushing total was 1817 yards in 1975. Simpson played for 11 seasons, and retired in 1979. He was a Pro Bowler six times.

Namath was in his eighth season with the Jets in 1972. His TD/INT ratio for the season was 19-21, but what a tremendous game that was given to the fans. The Jets won the game 44-34. The Jets ended the season at 7-7, and the Colts at 5-9, but the world was watching the Dolphins go a perfect 17-0 all the way to a Super Bowl victory.

Answer: New England Patriots

The Packers lost in week 5 to the Bears, the Cowboys in week 6 to the Patriots, and the Colts in week 8 to the Patriots also. By week 11, the Patriots were still on top of the heap without a loss. After coach Bill Belichick was caught being involved in some type of video survelliance issues early in the season, he had been accused of running up the scores of games after that. Belichick was trying to show the world that the Patriots didn't need 'any help'.

In their first 11 games in the season, the team scored less than 30 points in a game only once, and had scored more than 45, four times.

The Packers defeated the Chiefs and head coach Hank Stram, 35-10. Led by quarterback Bart Starr, who was selected as the game's first MVP, it was the eighth season that Lombardi had the helm of the Packers. He took the Packers to a 12-2 1966 season. Vince's career record was 96-34-6, with a postseason record of 9-1.

Not well known is that Lombardi was not a career Packer head coach, and retired in his final season at the helm of the Washington Redskins after the 1969 season.

Answer: Larry Centers

The others were all wide receivers and never played for the Cardinals in their careers. Centers began his career as a Cardinal in Phoenix in 1990, playing in six games but never touching the ball. In 1995, he caught his season high of 101 passes, a tremendous amount for any position.

In 1996, he followed it up with another 99. He also played short stints with Washington and Buffalo. All tolled, Larry ran for only 14 rushing touchdowns, but 28 receiving touchdowns, and 826 total receptions.

None of the others were quarterbacks. Tarkenton retired with 342 TD passes after 18 seasons with the Vikings and Giants in 1978. Fran's TD/INT ratio was 342-266. In his final season in 1978, he threw 25 TDs for the Vikings, but also threw 32 interceptions. Tarkenton also rushed for 3674 yards with 32 touchdowns in his career averaging 204 yards per season.

His season high for rushing was 366 yards as a Viking in 1966.

The Colts, under the play-calling from quarterback Peyton Manning, finished their season endeavors with a 12-4 record, tied with the Patriots' record.

The Colts won the Super Bowl 29-17, with Peyton Manning earning the MVP award.
