Question 1 of 10
1. This pair of quarterback brothers had very different careers. The older brother was the 1st overall pick in the 1970 draft, played for 14 years (all for the Pittsburgh Steelers), won an MVP award, 4 Super Bowls, 2 Super Bowl MVP awards, made 3 Pro Bowls, and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1989. The younger brother was drafted in the 7th round of the 1980 draft and played 2 games for the Houston Oilers. Who are these brothers? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. These running back brothers also had very different careers. The older brother went undrafted in 1973, and eventually signed with Cleveland in 1977. He scored 3 touchdowns during his career, 2 on kick returns and the other on a punt return. The younger brother was drafted 4th overall with the Chicago Bears, with whom he played his entire 13-year career. He finished his career with 16,726 rushing yards (the most at the time he retired), 9 Pro Bowls, a Super Bowl ring, and was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1993. Who are these "sweet" brothers? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Both these brothers played multiple positions (all on the defensive line), and both went to Notre Dame. Past that, the similarities subside. The older brother was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1979 draft, played 14 years in the NFL, and made the Pro Bowl 3 times (all 3 with Cleveland). The younger brother was drafted in the 10th round of the 1985 draft by Houston, and played most of his 8-year career with Philadelphia, compiling few significant statistics or awards. However, he found plenty of success after his NFL career with ESPN, where he started co-hosting a morning radio show with Tony Bruno in 1995, and later with Mike Greenberg in 1998. Who are these brothers, who both found a new home in radio? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. These two receiving brothers both had very successful careers in the NFL, though they started and ended in very different ways. The older brother was drafted 7th overall in the 1988 draft by the Green Bay Packers. He played for only 7 years at wide receiver, making 5 Pro Bowls, because his career was cut short with a neck injury in the 1994 season. His younger brother was drafted in the 7th round in 1990, and played most of his 14-year career in Denver. After his rookie year, he converted to tight end, and subsequently made 8 Pro Bowls, won 3 Super Bowls, and was named to the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team. Who are these alliterative brothers, who both found careers in television after their playing days were done? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Unfortunately, these two brothers are mostly known for their actions off of the field. The older brother was the 1st overall pick in the 2001 draft and made the Pro Bowl 3 times playing quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons before he was arrested in April 2007 for operating a dog fighting ring. The younger of the two only played in 1 game in the NFL for the Miami Dolphinsafter he went undrafted in the 2006 draft. While in college, he also had several problems, including intentionally stomping on the leg of Louisville's Elvis Dumervil in the 2006 Gator Bowl. Who are these brothers, who both played quarterback at Virginia Tech? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. These NFL players are not just brothers, they're twins. The older brother (by 7 minutes), Jamael, was drafted a round after his brother, Atiim, in the 1997 draft. They both went to Virginia, but played completely different positions. Atiim was a running back, making 3 Pro Bowls during his 10-year career, all with the New York Giants. Jamael played defensive back, and became the first cornerback in NFL history to record at least 20 interceptions and 20 sacks in a career. He also won Super Bowl XXXVII with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Who are these identical twins? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. A one-sided brother combination, this pair completed their playing days long before World War II. The younger brother didn't have much of a career, amassing 3 receiving touchdowns and 2 extra points made over 3 years with the Chicago Bears. His older brother, Harold Edward, totaled at least 569 rushing yards (football statistics were grossly incomplete prior to the 1930s) and 288 receiving yards, with 32 touchdowns over a 7-year career, mostly with the Chicago Bears. Still, with those paltry statistics, he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1963 because of how he revolutionized and popularized the spectacle of professional football. Who were these University of Illinois graduates? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. This trio was much more famous for their feats in college football than in the NFL. The oldest brother is the most recognizable, becoming the first player ever to win 2 Heisman Trophies as a running back at Ohio State. He only played 7 seasons in the NFL, all for the Cincinnati Bengals, where he ran for 7 touchdowns. The middle brother played defensive back for Ohio State, and found his 15 minutes of fame by intercepting a pass for a touchdown to lead the Buckeyes over Michigan in 1975. He also played 7 seasons in the NFL, and like his older brother, all of them were with Cincinnati, where he totaled 11 interceptions and 1 sack. The youngest brother broke the mold in 2 ways. First, he played college at Miami (FL), where he was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated after Miami beat #1 Nebraska in the 1984 Orange Bowl. Second, he played for 5 seasons, all for the Washington Redskins, where he ran for 3 touchdowns overall. Who were these three brothers? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. These brothers peaked at different points in their careers, one in college, one in the pros. The oldest played college ball at USC, and reportedly did so well against Bear Bryant's all-white Alabama team that Alabama decided to integrate its football team. He made 1 Pro Bowl, ran for 5453 yards, and scored 49 touchdowns over his 9-year NFL career, which he spent entirely with the New England Patriots. His younger brother (by 13 years) played quarterback, and was drafted by the Eagles in 1985. After attaining the starting spot from Ron Jaworski, he would go on to make 4 Pro Bowls and win the 1992 Comeback Player of the Year Award, earned after he missed almost the entire 1991 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. His speed would never fully recover, and played for Minnesota, Dallas, and Baltimore over the last 5 years of his career. Who were these offensive-minded brothers? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. This very early pair of football brothers was highlighted by the eldest. Jacobus, born in 1888, played for 6 different teams over only 8 years in the NFL. Officially, he ran for 6 touchdowns and threw for 4 more during his career. He was more famous for his Olympic prowess, earning gold medals in the pentathlon and decathlon events at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, though they were taken away because he had played professional baseball in 1909-1910 (they would be posthumously reinstated). His younger brother, "Deadeye", played only 8 games in the NFL, all with the Oorang Indians, amassing no significant statistics. Who were these Native American brothers, who both finished their careers before 1930? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Terry and Craig Bradshaw

The Bradshaw brothers were the first brother combination to be quarterbacks on opposite teams in the same game. However, they never actually played against one another, as Ken Stabler had the starting role in Houston. Craig had the last laugh in the 1980 season, since the Oilers made the playoffs and finished two games ahead of their AFC Central division rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Answer: Eddie and Walter Payton

The Payton brothers played each other 5 times, all while Eddie was playing for Minnesota. In those matchups, neither Walter nor Eddie scored a single touchdown, and Minnesota won 4 times. Fortunately for Eddie, there were still a few years to come before the 1985 Bears team that would end up winning the Super Bowl during an 18-1 season.
However, he found plenty of success after his NFL career with ESPN, where he started co-hosting a morning radio show with Tony Bruno in 1995, and later with Mike Greenberg in 1998. Who are these brothers, who both found a new home in radio?

Answer: Bob and Mike Golic

On the radio show "Mike and Mike in the Morning", Mike Greenberg often jokes how he has the same amount of Super Bowl rings as Mike Golic, despite having never played football in his life. The two are infamous for their "bracket challenges" on the show, where they put up competing brackets in trying to predict the NCAA basketball tournament.

The loser has had to do some embarrassing act on the air, from milking a cow (Greenberg) to having his legs waxed (Golic). Bob began working at WNIR 100.1 FM in Akron, Ohio in 2005.
Who are these alliterative brothers, who both found careers in television after their playing days were done?

Answer: Sterling and Shannon Sharpe

Sterling Sharpe was unable to return to football following his neck injury in 1994, and was therefore unable to get a Super Bowl ring when the Packers won in 1996. However, Shannon won 3 Super Bowls, and gave Sterling his first ring from Super Bowl XXXII which he won with the Denver Broncos.
While in college, he also had several problems, including intentionally stomping on the leg of Louisville's Elvis Dumervil in the 2006 Gator Bowl. Who are these brothers, who both played quarterback at Virginia Tech?

Answer: Michael and Marcus Vick

Michael Vick had several problems before being arrested for running a dog fighting ring, including stealing an expensive-looking watch from an airport screener in 2004, making obscene gestures to Atlanta fans after losing to New Orleans in 2006, and being found with a water bottle that had a hidden compartment at an airport in 2007, to name a few. Marcus found his own legal troubles, being sentenced to 12 months in jail (which was suspended) in late 2008 for DUI, misdemeanor eluding police, driving on the wrong side of the street, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license.

Answer: Tiki and Ronde Barber

Atiim Kiambu Hakeem-Ah "Tiki" Barber retired after the 2006 season from the New York Giants, holding 17 different team records when he left. The next year, the Giants would upset the 18-0 New England Patriots in the Super Bowl 17-14. Jamael Oronde "Ronde" Barber took over his own team record with Tampa Bay in 2007, when he caught his 32nd interception of his career. Ronde may not have as many team records as Tiki, but he does have the only Super Bowl ring between the two.

Answer: Red and Garland Grange

Harold Edward "Red" Grange revolutionized the sport of football, starting in high school. At Wheaton High School, Grange scored 75 touchdowns, and the only game his team lost in his last 2 years was a game in which he was knocked unconscious, a state in which he would stay for 2 days.

At Illinois, Grange started his career with 3 touchdowns against Nebraska, and had his best day against Michigan, scoring 6 touchdowns and amassing 402 total yards. Grange signed a contract in 1925. At a time when baseball was by far the most popular sport in America, Grange's Bears attracted 73,000 when they played the Giants in the Polo Grounds, and later played the Los Angeles Tigers in front of 75,000 fans.
8. This trio was much more famous for their feats in college football than in the NFL. The oldest brother is the most recognizable, becoming the first player ever to win 2 Heisman Trophies as a running back at Ohio State. Second, he played for 5 seasons, all for the Washington Redskins, where he ran for 3 touchdowns overall. Who were these three brothers?

Answer: Archie, Ray, and Keith Griffin

Archie Griffin ran for 5589 yards and scored 26 touchdowns in his 4 years at Ohio State, but couldn't get nearly the same success in the NFL. He played in Super Bowl XVI with Cincinnati alongside his brother Ray, but they were undone by Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers.

In that game, Archie had 1 run for 4 yards. Keith was the 279th overall pick in 1984, and won Super Bowl XVII (the year after Archie and Keith lost) with Washington, running once for 2 yards.
His speed would never fully recover, and played for Minnesota, Dallas, and Baltimore over the last 5 years of his career. Who were these offensive-minded brothers?

Answer: Sam and Randall Cunningham

The legend of Sam Cunningham making Alabama rethink its integration policy is sadly just that, a legend. Bear Bryant had already signed Wilbur Jackson, but he could not play as a freshman due to NCAA rules. Randall had his best season in the NFL not with the Eagles, but rather in 1998 with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings went 15-1 in the regular season, but lost to the 14-2 Atlanta Falcons, who would then lose to the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl.

Answer: Jim and Jack Thorpe

In 1950, the Associated Press named Jim Thorpe the greatest athlete of the first half of the 20th century. This was in no small part to his part in the 1912 Olympics, and playing professional football, baseball, and basketball. In regards to his stripped gold medals, the International Olympic Commission (IOC) did not follow its own rules.

The 1912 rules stated any protests had to be made within 30 days of the closing ceremonies, but the reports came six months afterwards. It has been thought that Thorpe's Native American background factored into the decision.

In 1950, the Associated Press named Jim the greatest athlete of the first half of the 20th century. He died in 1953, and his medals were reinstated in 1983.
