Originally called Melbourne Gardens, Franklin's Gardens takes its name from a nineteenth century owner. An English first class rugby union side, Northampton Saints have played there since the late 1880s. Unusually, the ground has a cenotaph, at which remembrance events take place.

Eden Gardens, in Kolkata, has hosted many national and international cricket matches. The second largest cricket venue in the world, behind the Melbourne Cricket Ground, it was the first stadium to host a Cricket World Cup final away from Lord's, in 1987.

One of the world's iconic sporting venues, Madison Square Garden has been home stadium for teams including the NBA's New York Knicks and NHL's New York Rangers. It has hosted other sport, including many boxing events, and also been a major music venue.

The NFL's Atlanta Falcons played at the Georgia Dome from its opening in 1992. It has staged many events including a soccer/football match involving Mexico and Venezuela, for which grass was laid over its artificial turf.

Calgary Flames of the NHL have been at the Saddledome since it opened in 1983. Part of the reason for building the arena was to accommodate the 1988 Winter Olympics, for which Calgary was in the process of bidding.

One of the most beautiful Test cricket grounds in the world, the Adelaide Oval was built in 1871 by the South Australian Cricket Association. In 1884 it became the sixth venue in the world to stage a Test match. It has mainly been used for cricket matches and Australian rules football, including the Adelaide Football Club, nicknamed the Crows, which was formed in 1991 and started playing home games there in 2013.

The Kensington Oval is located in Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados. It was built in 1871 and has staged cricket matches since 1882, including over 40 Test matches as a home venue for the West Indies. The ground hosted the 2007 Cricket World Cup final. The Barbados Tridents represented the island in the Caribbean Premier League at Twenty20 cricket.

The Joe Louis Arena was built in Detroit 1979 as a multi-sport venue and home for the National Hockey League team, the Detroit Redwings. It was named after a former Detroit resident, Joe Louis, the legendary heavyweight boxing champion. In 1980 it hosted the Republican Party's convention where Ronald Reagan secured the nomination as their candidate for the Presidency.

The Talking Stick Resort Arena opened in 1992 in Phoenix, Arizona. It became the home venue of the National Basketball Association team the Phoenix Suns that year. It has also hosted arena football and concerts, including a late performance by Frank Sinatra.

Rogers Centre opened in Toronto as SkyDome in 1989. Its name was changed in 2005. MLB's Toronto Blue Jays moved in in 1989. Other sides that had it as a home include the CFL team the Toronto Argonauts, who moved to a new stadium in 2016, and the NBA's Toronto Raptors, who were there from 1995-1999.

The United Center was built for the NHL team Chicago Blackhawks in 1994. Chicago Bulls of the NBA moved in that year, and the Blackhawks took up residency in 1995 - later than planned because of the 1994-95 NHL lockout.

The Oakland Alameda Coliseum opened in 1966. Unusually, it is the home for American Football and Baseball teams: the Oakland Raiders of the NFL and the Oakland Athletics of MLB.

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum was home to two football teams: USC Trojans football and the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL. The stadium was commissioned in 1921 as a memorial to LA's World War I service personnel. It has been used as the main stadium for two Olympic Games, in 1932 and 1984.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground, which opened in 1853, is one of the world's larges sporting arenas. It hosted an Olympic Games in 1956, plus two Cricket World Cup finals, in 1992 and 2015. The Melbourne Football Club, which plays in the Australian Football League, is the oldest professional club at any form of football, and has played at the MCG since 1858.

West Ham played at the Boleyn Ground from 1904 to 2016, when they moved to the Olympic Stadium. In 1944 it was temporarily closed when a V-1 flying bomb fell onto the pitch. It featured stands named after two of the club's most loved players: Sir Trevor Brooking and Bobby Moore.
