On September 21st, 1938 the hurricane engulfed Braves Field. It was the second game of a double header when home plate umpire Beans Reardon finally called the game with 50mph winds at his feet.

Joe beat out Williams 202 votes to 201. Williams blamed Boston sportswriter Mel Webb for the second-place finish.
