Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What would you be watching if you were in the stands at Wrigley Field?

Answer: A baseball game

Wrigley Field was home to the Chicago Cubs. It was opened on April 23, 1914, but the Cubs didn't play a game there until 1916. In 1914, Wrigley Field only held 14,000 people but later could hold 41,118 people.
2. What are the grooves along the sides of a bowling alley called?

Answer: Gutters

Gutters line each side of a bowling lane so that the your bowling ball doesn't cross over to the other lanes beside you. Most gutters are made out of one of two types of wood: Maple, a hardwood to take the constant hitting of a bowl or pine, a soft wood to help with the gripping of the ball.
3. In baseball, which distance is the shortest?

Answer: From the pitcher's mound to home plate

It is 60'6" from the pitcher's mound to the far side of home plate, and 90 feet between the other bases.
4. What is a libero in volleyball?

Answer: A player who only plays back row and doesn't have to serve

There can only be one Libero per team. They can rotate into the game whenever they want to and have unlimited substitutions unlike other players that have a certain amount.
5. Which of these games begins with a coin toss?

Answer: Football

At the beginning of every football game, the referees toss a coin to see which team puts their offense or defense on the field first.
6. Which of these baseball pitches is slow with no spin?

Answer: Knuckle ball

A knuckle ball is thrown by placing the ball between the thumb and the knuckles of the first joints of the first two or three fingers. This causes it to be slow and spinless.
7. Who screams out "fore"?

Answer: A golfer

Golfers yell out the word fore when a ball is hit in another golfers direction. Fore means "ahead" and simply warns other golfers that there is a ball headed their way.
8. Back in the 1940s, what were football helmets made from?

Answer: Leather

Back when football helmets were made out of leather, school logos and mascot pictures were rarely used. Most helmets were just brown leather with nothing on the sides.
9. In volleyball, how many times in a row can a player hit the ball?

Answer: 1

When the ball comes over the net to your side, your team can hit it three times but you as an individual can only hit once in a row. If you get the first hit, then someone else hits it, you can hit it again but it has to go over the net on the third hit.
10. In which sport do you compete for "big air"?

Answer: Snowboarding

Snowboarders try to get high in the air by jumping off things such as ramps. Sometimes they compete to get big air to determine which snowboarder can go the highest in the air.
