Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: 1945

Formed in 1945 after Stirling's previous senior team, Kings Park, had their ground bombed during the War, causing them to fold.
2. What is the name of Albion's home ground, which they moved to in 1993?

Answer: Forthbank Stadium

The club moved to Forthbank in 1993, after the old ground, Annfield was demolished.
3. Who was the manager during the club's successful promotion winning season of 1995-96?

Answer: Kevin Drinkell

Kevin Drinkell was the manager from 1994-98. Inceidentally, Ray Stewart was his assistant at the time, and came back in May 2000 to manage the club, somewhat unsuccessfully!
4. The furtherest Stirling Albion got in the Scottish Cup during the 1980s and 1990s was the Fourth Round?

Answer: False

They reached the Quarter Finals of the competition in 1990, before being knocked out by Clydebank in a replay.
5. Against which team did Stirling Albion play their first senior match?

Answer: Airdrieonians

In the Airdrie team that day in 1945, was a player called Peter MacKenzie. Mr MacKenzie became Chairman many years later.
6. Stirling Albion once beat which team 20-0 in the Scottish Cup?

Answer: Selkirk

A British record score in the 20th Century, and something they can now never take away from us. There's a chap in Berwick who still believes we beat CELTIC that day!
7. The defender/midfielder Steven Reilly, once had a trial with Spanish giants, Real Madrid?

Answer: True

Amazingly true, but he didnt't make the grade for them. He later signed for Hearts before joining Stirling in 2001.
8. Steve McCormick was the club's leading goalscorer in the promotion winning season of 1995-96, but from which club did Albion sign him?

Answer: Queen's Park

Big Stevie was a firm favourite with the fans, scoring over 30 goals that season.
9. By what score did Stirling beat the then Scottish Cup holders, Kilmarnock, in a League Cup tie in 1997?

Answer: 6-2

An incredible night, and probably my proudest moment of being an Albion fan!!
10. What was the main colour of Stirling Albion's home shirts during the late 1990s and early 2000s?

Answer: Red

One or two seasons, the predominant colour has been white, but red has always been Albion's true colour.
11. In season 2001-02 Stirling Albion, would have finished as the worst team in Scotland (last in Division 3), if _______ had not missed a penalty in another match on the same day: which team?

Answer: Queen's Park

Had the Queen's player scored that spot kick in their game against Dumbarton, we would have been the bottom of the bottom division. It doesn't get much worse than that! Stirling lost 1-2 to Brechin City, and Queen's Park drew 1-1.
12. Winger John Colquhoun was one of the club's finest players during the 1980s. Which club was he eventually sold to?

Answer: Celtic

Sadly, he never really fulfilled his true potential, but an amazing player whilst at Annfield (home ground of Stirling Albion until 1993).
13. Stirling twice clinched promotion during the 1990s at which ground?

Answer: Links Park, Montrose

The best of times. Twice clinching promotion to a higher league on the same ground. Montrose must be sick of the sight of us!
14. Which of the following players scored 129 goals, retiring as the club's all-time leading goalscorer?

Answer: Billy Steele

Although I'm too young to remember Billy's scoring exploits, he is a legend among Albion fans. Billy played from 1971 to 1983.
15. What is the nickname of Stirling Albion Football Club?

Answer: The Beanos

Yes, its the Beanos, although many fans spell it 'Binos', which according to a few is the right spelling. Opinion is very divided, although as many of their performances are 'comical', I'll stick with Beanos!
