Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A marshal waves a blue flag at you. What is he indicating?

Answer: A faster driver is behind you

A stationary flag generally indicates faster drivers are approaching from a distance, while a waved blue flag indicates they are very close behind. It is courteous to move aside and allow them to pass.
2. You are shown a black flag. What should you do?

Answer: Leave the circuit as you have broken the rules and the race director is removing you from the race

Black flags are generally issued because of poor driving standards, although they are also used if a race director wishes to remove a kart or driver for any reason they see fit under the rules.
3. In the 2000s decade, Honda, WTP, and Comer cadets were very popular classes for what reason?

Answer: They were for young children aged between 8 and 13

Comer engines are 60cc 2-stroke engines, Honda cadets use a single 4-stroke GX160 engine, and WTP are also 60cc 2-stroke engines with an electric start button. All three offer great entry level racing to young drivers, and many professional drivers began their careers driving these.
4. With regards to the kart itself, what does TAG stand for?

Answer: Touch and Go

Some karts have an electric start button. These are commonly known as TAG or touch and go.
5. What is a hairpin?

Answer: A very tight corner

These tight corners are normally 180 degree corners and a great deal of time can be made or lost through these challenging turns.
6. Which foot is used by almost all drivers for braking?

Answer: Left foot

While it is possible to have your right foot operate a brake, it is standard practice for it to be attached to the left pedal.
7. A red and yellow striped flag is shown to you. What does it mean?

Answer: Slippery surface

The slippery surface flag is shown to indicate the track has become slippery. The most common reason is oil, fuel, or water being dropped on the track.
8. By what three-letter abbreviation is the kart track at Grantham, Lincolnshire, better known?

Answer: PFI

PFI or PF International is named after its founder, Paul Fletcher.
9. What is a nassau panel?

Answer: A piece of bodywork

It is the piece of plastic bodywork which is attached between the steering column and the kart floor tray.
10. What would fitting an Alfano or Mychron enable you to do?

Answer: See your lap times

They are both popular brands of timing systems. They also give a lot of other data such as split times, revs per minute, running time, and g-forces to name but a few of their many functions.
