Question 1 of 10
1. 14th December 2003 saw Arsenal's nemesis Blackburn Rovers come to Highbury. Blackburn were responsible for two defeats on Arsenal the previous season that ultimately cost Arsenal the title. And with an attitude of spoiling the game Blackburn pushed Arsenal all the way during this game. However, unlike the previous season Arsenal, won the game by a single goal after 11 minutes: which player slipped the ball home after an excellent move? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. After Blackburn Rovers at home, Bolton Wanderers were up next for the Gunners, and a trip to the Reebok is not one to take lightly. Bolton were the kind of side to spoil anyone's day when they were on form and on this occasion nothing changed. Arsenal found themselves digging in very deep and came away with an excellent draw when defeat would of been a fairer reflection on preceedings. However, Arsenal did not lose and were only minutes away from taking three points before Pedersen scored an outstanding goal to secure the draw. Who scored the only goal of the game for Arsenal just before the hour mark with a bobbling shot? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers came to Highbury on Boxing Day 2003 to be soundly beaten for the second time in a month. Earlier in December the Arsenal 'second string' inflicted a 5-1 thrashing of the Premiership's bottom side in the Carling League cup, and Wolves fans witnessed no Christmas spirit from a rampant Arsenal yet again. The result was 3-0 to the Arsenal and it saw two goals come from Thierry Henry and an own goal by Jody Craddock. However, the own goal had originally been awarded to one of the Arsenal defensive players who had been seen to head the ball onto Craddock and it to the goal. Which one of the Arsenal back four had his moment of glory stolen? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Monday 29th December 2003 saw Arsenal travel to Southampton for a potentially tricky match. The Saints had beaten Arsenal 3-2 at St Mary's Stadiumin the previous season and were hell bent on matching that achievement, but a 1-0 win and a Pires goal gave the Arsenal the three points. However, the spotlight was on Arsenal forward Dennis Bergkamp who was making a record for a non British player in an Arsenal shirt. What was that milestone? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. The New Year sees Arsenal travel to Goodison Park and face the struggling Everton. However, Everton have a knack of giving the Gunners a tough time on Merseyside and yet again Arsenal lose points after leading. Tomas Radzinkski scores a late equaliser to cancel out the opener by which Gunners player? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Middlesbrough at home, a team Arsenal were to face four times in the month of January: a full strength Arsenal side demolished a Boro outfit that had conceded few goals all season. Back in August the Arsenal won 4-0 away and on this occasion the outcome was 4-1. Did Thierry Henry score twice in this 4-1 win at home?

Question 7 of 10
7. Villa Park and controversy as Arsenal took top spot with a 2-0 victory over a determined Aston Villa side. Manchester United had suprisingly lost 1-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers so Arsenal knew a win would take them clear and a win they got through a very strong away performance, but the opener was full of controversy for what reason? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. On a wet, windy and muddy February 1st evening Arsenal entertained Manchester City, fresh from a sensational 4-3 FA Cup win at Arsenal's rivals Tottenham (who led 3-0 at half time). City started out in a fearsome mood and caused Arsenal many problems. The game wore on, but like the reverse fixture earlier in the season an own goal opened the scoring, but who was responsible? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Spring had arrived and on Saturday February 7th Arsenal travelled to Molineux the home of Wolverhampton Wanderers. During January Wolves had beaten Manchester United 1-0 and held LIverpool to a 1-1 draw, both at Molineux, and wanted to add Arsenal to the list of big named scalps. For long periods of the first half Wolves showed enough to suggest the list getting longer. However, Arsenal took an early lead through an excellent finish from the Dutch master Bergkamp only to see Wolves equalise before half time through which unlikely name? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Southampton visisted Highbury in mid-February and were no match for a fluent Gunners side that ran out 2-0 winners: what feat did talisman striker Thierry Henry achieve by scoring both goals? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 14th December 2003 saw Arsenal's nemesis Blackburn Rovers come to Highbury.

Answer: Dennis Bergkamp

Freddie Ljungberg found Kolo Toure, who had raced up from right back. The Ivory Coast international burst past Vratislav Gresko and muscled him off the ball to reach the byline. As Craig Short came to clear, Toure poked the ball to Bergkamp on the corner of the six-yard box and the Dutchman picked his spot between American keeper Brad Friedel and the near-post. Played 16, Won 11 Drew 5, For 29 Against 11, Points 38.

Answer: Robert Pires

After what seemed a Bolton siege on the Arsenal goal, the Gunners broke with pace with Henry sprinting down the right side and looking to pass to Freddie Ljungberg. The Swede collected the pass and hit a difficult shot for Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen to spill into the path of Pires.

The French midfielder struck his shot into the ground and saw his effort nestle into the back of the goal. Played 17, Won 11 Drew 6, For 30 Against 12, Points 39.

Answer: Sol Campbell

After 13 minutes Arsenal took the lead through the disputed effort. From the naked eye it appeared that Sol Campbell had connected with a Thierry Henry corner and headed it into the Wolverhampton goal. However, after close tv inspection it showed that in fact Campbell had made no contact with the ball but only helped confuse Craddock into heading the ball in to his own goal. Campbell later admitted he had made no contact.

The game itself saw a 20th minute strike from Henry and a last minute effort, also from the French forward. Played 18, Won 12 Drew 6, For 33 Against 12, Points 42.

Answer: His 250th League appearance for Arsenal.

Bergkamp was indeed making his 250th Premiership appearance for Arsenal. His abilities and wonderful skills had produced some magic momentsd in those matches. The first goal he scored came in September 1996 ironically against Southampton and his hunger for further success obvious.

As for the game, Arsenal dominated for practically the whole match, with 1-0 not really reflecting the quality of football they were playing as a whole. Only the excellence of Southampton keeper Anti Neimi kept the score down.

But he stood no chance with a slick move that ended with Pires scoring after 35 minutes. Played 19, Won 13 Drew 6, For 34 Against 12, Points 45.

Answer: Kanu

Arsenal made heavy going of this evening fixture on Merseyside and were by no means at their best. Kanu scored the only goal of the game in what would be a disappointing season for the Nigerian. Everton played well above expectation and a Tomas Radzinski goal late on salvaged what was a deserved point for the Toffee's. Played 20, Won 13 Drew 7, For 35 Against 13, Points 46.

Answer: No

A largely quiet first half burst into life when Ugo Ehiogu tripped up Vieira in the penalty area and Thierry Henry on 38 slotted home the kick. It came after a moment of madness on both Henry and Boro defender Danny Mills threatened to have red cards dished out.

However, sense prevailed and Mills was to be in for a difficult afternoon. Then on half time an own goal by Franck Queudrue helped Arsenal into a nice lead. Just before the hour Robert Pires made it 3-0 with a simple goal and finally Fredrik Ljungberg on 68 made it 4-0 before a late consolation penalty by Massimo Maccarone mirrored the result at the Riverside back in the early matches. Played 21, Won 14 Drew 7, For 39 Against 14, Points 49.

Answer: Henry took a quick free kick and scored without Villa being r"eady".

On 28 minutes Arsenal won a free kick outside the Villa penalty area. Henry asked referee Mark Halsey if he could take the free kick quickly and when given permission to do so fired it past a perplexed Thomas Sorensen in the Villa goal. Much to the despair of the home side the goal stood. Within seven minutes of half time Kanu had been fouled by Olaf Mellberg and Henry fired home the penalty to give Arsenal a hard faught win and three precious points.
Played 22, Won 15 Drew 7, For 41 Against 15, Points 52.

Answer: Michael Tarnat (Man City)

Dennis Bergkamp fed the ball down the City left side and Thierry Henry sent in a vicious low ball across the six yard box ready for Freddie Ljungberg to slide into the goal, only to see Tarnat beat him to the ball and accidently fire home into his own net.

The game was spoilt by torrential rain throughout and both teams were struggling to come to terms with the conditions. With minutes remaining Henry scored from 25 yards out to send Arsenal into a 2-0 lead. However, with a minute remaining former Gunner Nicolas Anelka dragged City back into the game only to see himself sent off for reacting violently to an Arsenal player whilst retrieving the ball from the goal.

A hard earned win and a tough battle, which incidentally saw the arrival of the new Arsenal signing Jose Antonio Reyes make his debut. Played 23, Won 16 Drew 7, For 43 Against 16, Points 55.

Answer: Ioan Ganea

Wolves gave Arsenal a fearsome roasting in the first half and 1-1 was scant reward for the struggling Midlands side, however, Arsenal came out in the second half and played like Champions elect by taking the game to Wolves more and two more goals from Henry and Kolo Toure made it 3-1 to the Gunners.

The result itself flattered Arsenal at half time, but by full time no one would of begrudged a double figure score to an awesome Gunners side. Played 24, Won 17 Drew 7, For 46 Against 17, Points 58.
10. Southampton visisted Highbury in mid-February and were no match for a fluent Gunners side that ran out 2-0 winners: what feat did talisman striker Thierry Henry achieve by scoring both goals?

Answer: He scored his 100th and 101st Premiership goals.

An exciting performance against a dogged Saints side saw Arsenal romp to a 2-0 win. The result was only so due to the heriocs of Southampton keeper Antti Niemi, who almost single handedly kept Southampton in it. Henry opened the scoring in 31st minute latching onto a Pires pass and squeezing the ball past Niemi. To be fair though Southampton did have their own chances and may well of had a goal to go with some decent football.

In the second half Arsenal played with a verve but no killer instinct and nearly paid for wasteful finshing when Toure cleared a Delap shot away.

But Henry had the last say by lashing a last minute clincher from distance into the top corner of Niemi's goal. Played 25, Won 18 Drew 7, For 48 Against 17, Points 61.
