Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "An unidentified bogey" was picked up on radar at the U.S. Space Surveillance Center in Wyoming. What did the commanding officer tell his staff the item was?

Answer: A meteor

The technician who was tracking the bogey stated that it was moving erratically and that "no known aircraft can maneuver like this". It was reported to have crashed outside of Townsend, Wisconsin at over 800 mph. The commander, Colonel Henderson, told them that it was a meteor and the apparent bizarre movements were due to equipment malfunction.

He then made a phone call, reporting a "fallen angel".
2. A deputy arrived at the crash site and thought it was a fire. When he went to investigate, he was attacked by an alien. How would you describe the alien?

Answer: Transparent

A deputy spotted what he thought was a fire and tried to call it in, but the call did not go through -- too much static interference. When he went out to investigate, he heard something in the woods but couldn't see it. All we could see was a vibration similar to the creature in the "Predator" film. When it attacked, we saw a blast of light.
3. The government evacuated the town of Townsend, Wisconsin, following the crash, but what was the reason given for the evacuation?

Answer: Toxic waste spill

All twelve thousand residents were told to evacuate, apparently due to a hazardous train accident, although as Mulder later pointed out to Scully, "There weren't any train tracks anywhere near that site so how could it have been a derailed container?" Deep Throat had told Mulder that Operation Falcon was being led by Colonel Henderson, a "reclamation" expert whose job was to prevent technology from falling into the wrong hands. Mulder realized that Henderson was leading a crash retrieval unit so he headed to Wisconsin.
4. When Mulder arrived at the crash site in Wisconsin, what had been erected to prevent anyone from getting in or out of the site?

Answer: Laser beam fence

Fencing with red laser beams surrounded the site. Mulder didn't try to breech the fence but instead hitched a ride underneath a military deuce and a half that was heading into the base camp set up at the site. Later, the alien escaped from the site by passing through the laser beam fence without a problem.
5. Mulder was captured at the crash site and put in a cage where he met Max Fenig, who was wearing a cap that said "NICAP". What type of organization was Max with?

Answer: UFO investigation

Mulder made it to the crash site and was able to take several photos before he was bashed in the head with the butt of a rifle. The camera's film was exposed by Colonel Henderson who told Mulder to forget "what you saw or what you think you saw". Mulder was then put in a holding cage next to Max Fenig, a UFO enthusiast who was with the National Investigative Committee of Aerial Phenomenon (NICAP). Fenig said that he had been picked up "a hundred yards past the roadblock" so he didn't get to see the crash site. Fenig was gone by the time that Agent Scully arrive the next day to pick up Mulder.
6. When Mulder and Scully arrived at Mulder's hotel room, who had ransacked the room and was caught trying to escape out the window?

Answer: Max Fenig

When they opened the door and saw the disheveled room, Mulder remarked, "It looks like housekeeping hasn't been here yet". They found Max Fenig in the bathroom, stuck in the window. Fenig apologized but said that he "was a curious man and had to know if it was really you". He had read Mulder's published articles and admitted that NICAP followed Mulder's career through his travel expenses since they were public records. Mulder was surprised; he didn't realize he had a following.
7. After Max Fenig was released from the military holding cage, he returned to his home. Where was he living?

Answer: An Airstream trailer

Max Fenig had his Airstream trailer parked in the parking lot of the hotel where Mulder was staying, right outside of Mulder's room. He invited Mulder and Scully into the trailer, which was filled with listening devices and UFO paraphernalia. He wanted to have them listen to a tape of the night of the crash, containing the deputy's call and the frantic call from the fire crew who responded, "We've got a situation here".
8. Mulder and Scully went to the hospital to get information on the dead deputy and initially received resistance from the doctor, but he finally told them what he had seen. What extreme injury had the deputy suffered?

Answer: Fifth and sixth degree burns

Mulder and Scully tried talking to the deputy's wife, but she was scared; she had been threatened that if she talked, she wouldn't receive her husband's pension. The doctor also refused to talk, but when Mulder asked him what he'd been threatened with, he broke, "I hate fascists.

The men who came in here, the way they pushed us all around". The doctor admitted that he'd seen the deputy and three members of the fire crew, "They were all DOA with 5th and 6th degree burns over 90% of their bodies".

While they were at the hospital, members of Colonel Henderson's staff were brought in with the same burns, and Scully stayed to help treat them at the doctor's request.
9. After leaving the hospital, Mulder went to visit Max Fenig and found him on the floor. What had happened to Max?

Answer: He was having a seizure.

Max Fenig was having an epileptic seizure. When he recovered, he told Mulder he hadn't "had an episode in seven years not since [he] went on medication". He told Mulder that he started having seizures when he was ten due to an apparent head injury, but he had no recollection of the injury, and when he had his seizures, he wouldn't remember having them and sometimes woke up in strange places.

When Mulder put Fenig in his bed, he noticed that Fenig had a triangular scar behind his ear, and it was a type of scar that Mulder had seen before.

He asked Scully to take a look at the scar, but when they went to see Fenig, he was gone.
10. What appeared to happen to Max Fenig at the end of the episode?

Answer: He was abducted by aliens.

While looking for Max Fenig in his trailer, Mulder and Scully heard on the radio that the authorities were tracking someone at the waterfront, so they headed there and found Fenig in a warehouse. He was holding his ear and crying repeatedly, "it hurts". Mulder sent Scully outside to keep the military out, but she was captured.

The military could detect three forms in the warehouse via thermal imaging, which surprised Scully since she thought only Mulder and Fenig were in the building. But the alien was too, and it jolted Mulder across the room.

When Mulder went back, he found Fenig hanging in the air, about five feet off the ground. Max disappeared after a blast of light, and the military scout then reported that only one figure was being detected in the building via thermal imaging.

When they blew the door and entered the building, all that was found was Mulder and Fenig's NICAP hat.
