Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The fathers of the girls were both found dead with the poison digitalis in their bodies, but what was the cause of their deaths?

Answer: Extreme blood loss

The official cause of death was listed as hypovolemia, extreme blood loss. Joel Simmons was missing 75 percent of his blood, and when Mulder interviewed his daughter Teena, she stated that her father had been exsanguinated. When Mulder and Scully realized that both deaths occurred at the same time, Scully suggested that there were two serial killers working together, but Mulder dismissed that possibility.

He thought the crimes were related to similar cases involving cattle, and he thought extraterrestrials were responsible.
2. Teena Simmons was being held by social services following her father's death. What happened to her after Mulder and Scully interviewed her?

Answer: She was abducted.

Teena's mother had died from cancer, and she had no other relatives, so social services was keeping her at a hostel until they could find foster care for her. Mulder and Scully asked her about her father's death, and when Mulder asked her if she remembered any sounds or lights, she said that there was red lightning and that "the men from the clouds" were after her dad. Mulder and Scully left when Scully received a call about another murder. That evening, Teena seemed to sense that someone was coming for her; she blocked her door and hid under the bed.

After the door burst open, she tried to escape but was grabbed.
3. When Mulder and Scully went to California to investigate Doug Reardon's death, they were shocked to find that his daughter Cindy looked exactly like Teena Simmons. What did they discover about Cindy and Teena's parents?

Answer: They had used the same fertility clinic.

After seeing Cindy Reardon, Mulder and Scully asked Cindy's mother if the girl was adopted. Cindy's mother said she wasn't, and she had video tape of the birth to prove it. When she said that they had tried for six years to have a child, Mulder asked if she had had in vitro fertilization.

She replied that she had, at the Luther Stapes Clinic in San Francisco. When Mulder and Scully visited the clinic, they found out that both couples had been treated by Dr. Sally Kendrick, who was dismissed for "tampering with genetic material of fertilized ova".
4. When Deep Throat contacted Mulder in California, he told him about the Litchfield Experiments that were conducted during the Cold War. What was the goal of the project?

Answer: create super soldiers

According to Deep Throat, the project started in the 1950s after the U.S. found out that the Soviets were experimenting with genetics to try to create human beings with superior intelligence and super strength. Under the highly classified project, the U.S. created a group of "genetically controlled children" who were raised in a compound in Litchfield. All of the boys were named Adam, and the girls were named Eve. Deep Throat then told Mulder that there was someone he should meet.
5. Where did Mulder and Scully meet Eve 6?

Answer: Insane asylum

Eve 6 was being held at the Whiting Institute for the Criminally Insane, and Deep Throat had arranged access for Mulder to meet her. The guard who took Mulder and Scully to meet her gave them a flashlight because Eve 6 became hysterical if the lights were turned on; the guard said that "no one's ever got a real good look at her" because of her light phobia. Mulder and Scully got enough of a look to realize that she looked just like Sally Kendrick, but Eve 6 said that was not her name.

She said that she was the only Eve left except for Eve 7 and Eve 8 who had both escaped.

The adult Eves were played by Harriet Sansom Harris who would later play Frasier's manipulative agent Bebe Glazer on "Frasier".
6. What did Eve 6 tell Mulder and Scully that the Adams and Eves had that was different from other humans?

Answer: 56 chromosomes

When Scully asked if she had worked at the Luther Stapes clinic in 1985, Eve 6 claimed that she had been locked up at the asylum for two years by that time. She said she was kept alive because the people working on the Litchfield project were conducting tests on her to see what went wrong.

She stated that Sally had figured out what the problem was - the Adams and Eves had five extra pairs of chromosomes. This gave the Adams and Eves unusual strength and intelligence. Mulder added that they also had "heightened psychosis".
7. How did Mulder and Scully find out that Teena Simmons and Cindy Reardon were Eves?

Answer: They saw a picture of young Eves on Eve 6's wall.

After telling her story, Eve 6 thought that Mulder and Scully didn't believe her so she said that she had proof, and she told them to look at her "family album" on her wall. There they saw a photo of a group of children, and they all looked exactly like Teena and Cindy. Mulder realized that "Sally Kendrick was using the clinic to carry on the Litchfield Experiment" by cloning herself.
8. Who killed Sally Kendrick/Eve 7?

Answer: Teena and Cindy

Eve 7 kidnapped Cindy and took her to a hotel where she introduced Cindy to Teena. Eve 7 told Cindy and Teena that she "had hoped her work at the Stapes Center had corrected the Litchfield flaws". She said that "psychotic behavior didn't develop in the Adams and Eves until age 16, homicidal behavior at 20" and that she was disappointed when she heard about their fathers' murders and realized that the girls had "accelerated development".

When she asked why they murdered their fathers, one of the young Eves responded that "they weren't our fathers". Eve 7 explained that she was raised by someone who knew what she was and that with "long term medication", the young Eves could become like her.

Then Eve 7 started convulsing, and when she asked the girls what they had done, and they confessed that they had put digitalis in her soda.

When Mulder and Scully arrived, they found Eve 7 dead and the window smashed. Teena and Cindy told them that "we were all supposed to drink, but we only pretended to drink it.

They tried to poison us" leading Mulder to state that Eve 7 had been working with Eve 8.
9. Mulder and Scully were driving with Cindy and Teena when they stopped at a roadside cafe and ordered drinks. How did Mulder realize that the drinks were poisoned?

Answer: He saw the digitalis stain on the table.

Cindy had put poison in the drinks while the others were in the restrooms but had apparently spilled a bit of the digitalis while doing so. Mulder had left his keys on the table in the cafe, and when he went back to get them, he noticed the green stain on the table.

He ran outside and knocked Scully's drink out of her hands. Both Mulder and Scully had commented that their drinks were sweet, but they only had a sip so they didn't get sick. The girls took off when Mulder whispered to Scully that the girls had poisoned the drinks.
10. At the end of the episode, who visited the girls at the institute?

Answer: Eve 8

The girls were put in the asylum at the Whiting Institute next to Eve 6, and the placards on their doors now designated them as Eve 9 and Eve 10. Eve 6 told them it was "so nice to have company". A doctor then arrived to see them, and the young Eves greeted her, "Hello, Eve 8. We've been waiting". When she asked how they knew she was coming, they responded, "We just knew".
