Dupre was quickly declared dead, and the staff focused on saving Agent Willis. They weren't able to get a pulse after thirteen minutes and were about to declare him dead, but Scully insisted they keep trying with the defibrillators. When they administered the additional shocks to Willis, both bodies jolted, although the staff was focused on Willis and didn't notice Dupre. Finally they received a heartbeat on Willis, around fourteen minutes after he had first gone into cardiac arrest.

Answer: Wedding ring

Willis woke up, but he wasn't Willis - he was Dupre in Willis' body. He went into another patient's room to steal his clothes, and when he saw his face in the mirror, he (Dupre) realized that it was the face of the man (Willis) who he shot during the robbery.

He then went down to the morgue and found Dupre's body. He tried to pull off the wedding ring but when that wouldn't work, he cut off three fingers to get to it.

Answer: Tattoo

Dupre had a dragon tattoo on his lower right arm that was seen when he was in the car with Lula Phillips before the bank robbery and when his arm fell out from under the sheet in the emergency room. When Willis went looking for Lula, presumably at the place where she and Dupre used to live, he raised the sleeve of his jacket, and the beginnings of the dragon tattoo were emerging on his skin in the same place that Dupre had his tattoo.

Answer: In prison

Warren Dupre had been a prison guard at the women's correctional facility where Lula Phillips was serving a ten-year sentence for manslaughter. According to Scully, he was a guard there until the warden found out about their affair. A week after Lula was released, the two started robbing banks.

They had killed seven people during their string of robberies, and Agent Jack Willis had been obsessed with their case.

Answer: They had dated for nearly a year.

When Mulder asked Scully how well she knew Willis, she mentioned that they had dated and then added that he had been her instructor at the FBI Academy. Mulder looked surprised and said, "The plot thickens". Scully added that they even had the same birthday. Mulder later used that fact to try to convince Scully that Willis wasn't Willis.

He asked Willis to sign a birthday card for Scully, but it was two months before her birthday. Willis signed it without hesitation, and his signature didn't match official records. Scully put it down to post traumatic stress disorder.

Answer: He told her about their trip to the ocean after their marriage.

After receiving a tip, Scully and Willis found Lula Phillips in the basement of a hotel. Scully handcuffed her but then Willis told Scully to handcuff herself. Willis and Lula then took Scully to a house where they kept her handcuffed to a radiator while they talked. Willis told Lula his story and finally convinced her he was Dupre when he told her about their trip to the beach and how he had cut their palms and let the blood drip together into the ocean "so that they could be married in all the oceans of the world".

Answer: Diabetes

While Willis and Lula Phillips were holding Scully hostage, Scully heard Lula say that Willis had drank the rest of the soda, and Scully told them that Willis was diabetic and that he needed insulin. One of them broke into a pharmacy to get the insulin, but when Scully tried to administer it, Lula smashed the bottles.

It turned out that she had apparently tired of Dupre, and she was the one who had tipped off the FBI about the bank robbery. Now as Willis' body began to break down, she was going to let him die from a lack of insulin.

Answer: A trip to a cabin during a snowstorm

Willis yelled at Scully when she called him "Jack", but after she kept mentioning pieces of his life, he had a few flashes of a memory of driving during a snowstorm. Scully said that they drove up through the storm when they spent a weekend at his parents' cabin and that he taught her how to ice fish on the trip. Later as Willis was near death, he told Scully that he remembered a red stove and that he had to wrap her in a blanket because she was so cold after they ran out of wood.

Answer: Agent Jack Willis

Willis (Dupre) had earlier killed Tommy Phillips, Lula's brother, because he believed that Tommy had tipped off the FBI to the robbery. But as he found out, it had been Lula who tipped them off. After Willis appeared to be dead, Lula crouched down in front of him, dropped her wedding ring and said, "I guess it's over, whoever you are". But Willis wasn't dead; he grabbed her gun and told her that he (Dupre) came back for her. She tried to convince him that she still loved him, but he wasn't buying it. He shot her and then collapsed dead. The tattoo then disappeared from his arm.

Answer: Watch

Mulder brought the watch to Scully because he had noticed the inscription: "Happy 35th, Love D.". Scully looked at the watch and realized it had stopped at 6:47. Mulder pointed out that was the time that Willis had gone into cardiac arrest. When Scully asked what that meant, he told her "it means whatever you want it to mean".
