Natalie found out that Laurel Banning (whose real name was Carla Benton) embezzled money from the foundation and, on her way to confront Laurel about this, she got into a car accident. Laurel said she took money from The Mason Foundation to pay for schooling for her daughter, Lily. Lily was autistic.

Maria was in charge of Natalie's case when Natalie was in a car accident. She broke the sad news, to Trevor, that Natalie was brain dead and the only thing keeping her alive was life support. Trevor made the painful decision to take Natalie off life support and she died.

Natalie's funeral was held shortly after Natalie died due to injuries she sustained in a car accident. The funeral brought together the entire Pine Valley community, as they reflected on how Natalie went from a gold digging witch to an upstanding woman.

At the funeral, there was a brief scene in which Janet was shown handcuffed to someone. Janet was briefly released from prison for that day to attend Natalie's funeral.

Hayley Vaughn and Brian Bodine came upon the car and got both Adam and Natalie to the hospital. Adam was paralyzed from the waist down for several months but he, eventually, got to walk again.

Laurel and Denny got into a fight, one night, and Denny started to attack Laurel. Laurel grabbed an object and used it to kill Denny. Jack came upon the scene and Laurel told him what happened. She was afraid she would go to prison for Denny's murder so she and Jack wrapped Denny's dead body in a garbage bag and rug and dumped him in a pond on Palmer's estate, Cortlandt Manor. Denny's body was found and it was revealed Laurel killed him but she was never charged for the crime since it was ruled Laurel killed Denny in self-defense.
