Question 1 of 10
1. As this episode began we learned three career criminals were plotting to kidnap J.R. Their plan was to take him while he was driving his car, hopefully, to some remote location. As fate would have it, at the time the would-be kidnappers were ready to make their move, Bobby needed to borrow J.R.'s car. Why? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. She may be best remembered as Dustin Hoffman's character's wife, Olga Crabb, in the movie "Little Big Man" (1970). Which lady, who had already established a lengthy résumé as a character actress in movies and television, played kidnapper Fay Parker in this episode? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Unbeknownst to everyone else related to the Ewings, Bobby had been kidnapped. The secretaries at Ewing Oil mentioned to J.R. that Bobby had NOT kept a very important appointment with a builder. Was J.R. immediately very concerned about Bobby?

Question 4 of 10
4. In spite of having "the wrong Ewing" the kidnappers were determined to move forward with their scheme as planned. It had been predetermined by the kidnappers that Cliff Barnes was to act as a go-between - communicating on their behalf with the Ewing family. Where was Cliff told to find his first set of instructions? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Cliff Barnes was ready to do whatever necessary (and, wise!) to have no harm come to Bobby. As much as Cliff despised the Ewings, he loved his sister, Pam, enough to push aside differences and work with them to assure Bobby's safety. Did J.R. also put aside his differences and welcome Cliff's involvement?

Question 6 of 10
6. The kidnappers made their demands in the note that was found by Cliff Barnes. What amount of money ("in out of sequence bills") was demanded for Bobby's safe return to his family? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Although the note from the kidnappers was very clear about NO interaction with the police, federal agents or FBI, J.R. went against their demands and had an FBI agent pose as his chauffeur/valet. When one of the kidnappers (the one called Al) phoned Southfork what did he say as he ended the call? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Much to J.R.'s chagrin, Pam and Cliff convinced the other members of the Ewing family to comply with the kidnappers demands, or at least appear to do so. In the mean time, the kidnappers were more and more anxious about their own situation. What did Bobby do that really angered all three of his captors? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. It appeared another day had passed and it was again night time when the kidnappers called Southfork. They were ready to return Bobby and claim their money. Cliff was compliant but adamant that the exchange would be done as he directed. Did the kidnappers agree to bring Bobby to the entrance gate of the ranch at dawn the next morning?

Question 10 of 10
10. No one would be surprised to learn that J.R. had made his own plans. He also convinced Jock and Ray to assist him with those plans. What did J.R. arrange that could have proven very unfavorable for both Bobby and Cliff? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As this episode began we learned three career criminals were plotting to kidnap J.R. Their plan was to take him while he was driving his car, hopefully, to some remote location. As fate would have it, at the time the would-be kidnappers were ready to make their move, Bobby needed to borrow J.R.'s car. Why?

Answer: Bobby's car had a flat tire

The three kidnappers had watched the Ewings and Southfork for some time as the studied the day-to-day routine and made their plans to kidnap J.R. On the day they were ready to make their big move, Bobby's car had a flat in its parking garage. In his haste, he (Bobby) asked his secretary to have his car repaired and have J.R. drive it home while he took J.R.'s car to his meeting and then home later that day. Blooper alert: Whether it was intentional - to show a bit of incompetence on the parts of the kidnappers - or whether it was truly a blooper it was impossible to tell, but the kidnappers identified Lucy as "J.R.'s granddaughter".

She was not - Lucy was J.R.'s niece.
2. She may be best remembered as Dustin Hoffman's character's wife, Olga Crabb, in the movie "Little Big Man" (1970). Which lady, who had already established a lengthy résumé as a character actress in movies and television, played kidnapper Fay Parker in this episode?

Answer: Kelly Jean Peters

Kelly Jean Peters could have been Archie Bunker's daughter, Gloria. Hard to imagine anyone except Sally Struthers but Kelly Jean Peters did film one of the pilot episodes for "All in the Family" (1971 - 1979). In this episode of "Dallas", she played the kidnapper, Fay Parker, with enough range to be enjoyable. We saw her as boss, side-kick, seductress and victim - all while keeping her eye on the "prize", that is, payday if this kidnapping goes as hoped. Surely it was no coincidence that the female kidnapper was named Fay Parker - as a nod to one of the most famous gun molls and criminals native to the great state of Texas, Bonnie Parker, of Bonnie and Clyde infamy.
3. Unbeknownst to everyone else related to the Ewings, Bobby had been kidnapped. The secretaries at Ewing Oil mentioned to J.R. that Bobby had NOT kept a very important appointment with a builder. Was J.R. immediately very concerned about Bobby?

Answer: No

At the office, J.R. was brusque and dismissive with his and Bobby's administrative assistants when they told him that Bobby had missed his meeting. J.R. expressed more concern about his car being driven by "strangers" than about what could have happened to cause Bobby miss the meeting.

Then at home, at Southfork, J.R. used Bobby's unaccounted for time to attempt to plant a bit of doubt into Pam's mind with innuendos and snide remarks. Soon enough the entire Ewing family would have reason to be concerned.

Answer: A note buried across the road from the entrance to Southfork

Whether they liked it or not, once again, the Ewings and the Barnes would need to work together; this time it seemed Bobby's life depended on it. Cliff received the phone call that told him Bobby had been kidnapped and where he (Cliff) could find the note with further instructions. Fearing that it was no hoax, Cliff found the note and told the entire Ewing family about the telephone call he had received early that evening and how it situated him in their lives - again.

Answer: No

Although the note from the kidnappers was emphatically clear that Cliff would act as messenger and courier, J.R. was ready for Cliff to leave any and all decisions and actions up to the Ewings. Certainly, Cliff thought it might be the best chance for Bobby's safety and return if cooler heads prevailed. Cliff also knew that he (Cliff) would be the only one concerned about Pam's well being in Bobby's absence.
6. The kidnappers made their demands in the note that was found by Cliff Barnes. What amount of money ("in out of sequence bills") was demanded for Bobby's safe return to his family?

Answer: $1,500,000

It would appear the kidnappers have some degree of math aptitude. Their demand of $1,500,000 could split equally among the three of them - although, this is NOT mentioned in the episode. Nor is any mention made of the relationship(s) (or, lack thereof) among the kidnappers. We do learn this is NOT the first heist in which they have participated together.

Although, it does appear they are still honing their skills as criminals.
7. Although the note from the kidnappers was very clear about NO interaction with the police, federal agents or FBI, J.R. went against their demands and had an FBI agent pose as his chauffeur/valet. When one of the kidnappers (the one called Al) phoned Southfork what did he say as he ended the call?

Answer: "No feds, or Bobby Ewing is dead."

Cliff had cautioned all the Ewings from the very beginning of this traumatic ordeal to "go along with their demands" - or, at least for the time being appear to go along with those. J.R., of course, had to take the opposing position and go to the FBI immediately.

The kidnappers watched every move the Ewings made and knew immediately knew where J.R. and Cliff had gone to get the money and exactly who their chauffeur really was. There was no mincing of words about Bobby's future if the Ewings continued to stray from instructions and demands given by Bobby's kidnappers.

Answer: He tried to escape while the kidnappers were arguing among themselves.

The F.B.I. told the Ewing family (and, Cliff) that Bobby's kidnappers had been responsible for several similar crimes - all in other states. Apparently, this "experience" did not make things go more smoothly for Will, Al and Fay (the kidnappers). There was a bit of blame and dissension among them.

While the kidnappers were arguing, Bobby used a chair to try to pry loose the boards over the window in the room where he was retrained. He made too much noise; the kidnappers heard him. They were not happy with him.

He was chained tighter and they knew they had to finalize their plans - with whatever outcome.

Answer: No

Early in the telephone conversation with Cliff, Al (one of the kidnappers) was ready with a plan that would have his group hold Bobby until after they had the money. Cliff insisted that he meet the kidnappers in a open field in a rural area (near Denton, was mentioned) and exchange Bobby for the money at the same. Cliff reminded Al that there was to be no law enforcement involved. Al finally agreed to Cliff's demands.

After Al told Fay and Will about the plan, he questioned Bobby about how it would all unfold and reminded Bobby that his life depended on his family doing just as they had promised. Bobby assured the kidnappers that his family would do nothing to jeopardize his welfare and safe return.
10. No one would be surprised to learn that J.R. had made his own plans. He also convinced Jock and Ray to assist him with those plans. What did J.R. arrange that could have proven very unfavorable for both Bobby and Cliff?

Answer: J.R., Ray and ranch cowhands - all with rifles - hide to ambush the kidnappers when they arrived with Bobby.

None of the other members of the Ewing family (or, Cliff!) knew that Jock had concurred with J.R.'s plan to have Ray and some of the ranch's cowboys hide with him at the exchange spot before dawn. The armed men from Southfork were going to overtake the kidnappers while retaining Bobby and the money.

It was obvious that J.R. was unconcerned that Cliff could have been caught in the cross fire - had there been one. Cliff quickly realized just exactly when J.R. had given the command to converge on the scene.

Although, J.R. denied that neither Bobby nor Cliff had ever been in harm's way, it was obvious neither of them believed him.
