Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This episode began with a scene inside an upscale apartment. Julie Grey had not been seen in Dallas for a while but we learned very quickly she had returned. She was on the phone with a place well known to "Dallas" viewers. Where had she called?

Answer: The Cattleman's Club

The opening scene showed Julie on the telephone with the maître d' at The Cattleman's Club. Her request seemed a bit strange - given the character's history with the series. She asked to be alerted the next time Jock Ewing - yes, Jock, not J.R. - made a reservation.

Although the maître d' mentioned she may wait a while to be called because Jock was not in the Club as often as he once had been, it would not be long until Julie would get a return call about a reservation.
2. It seemed every member of the Ewing family was taking care of Jock after his heart attack. Miss Ellie made a point to remind him, "just club soda" when he mentioned a drink. In this episode, another Ewing family member was entertaining guests by the family swimming pool and interceded to prevent Jock from exerting himself. Who?

Answer: Lucy

Lucy and some of her friends were sunbathing and partying by the pool when Jock noticed a (small, portable, bar-b-que) grill was in the way of the young people. When Jock attempted to move it Lucy interceded and one of her (young, male) friends quickly moved it.

The discomfort was obvious on Jock's face. His disappointment would continue during the family dinner hour when it seemed (to him) everyone had demands and activities of their own yet encouraged him to "not worry" and "take it easy" and, even, "no salt".

He left the table after a firm reprimand to the family that included, "The day I start taking orders from anyone is the day they bury me."
3. Julie's plan seemed to go just as she had hoped. Jock invited her to join him for lunch after he accepted her soulful apology for giving Cliff Barnes pertinent information about Ewing Oil. It was obvious Jock was immediately smitten by Julie's attention. He asked the maître d' to bring the best champagne to their table. What did he say to Julie as he took her hand?

Answer: Welcome home, Julie.

Julie and Jock lingered over lunch and drinks and conversation - conversation that included Jock telling Julie that Sue Ellen was "about four months" pregnant. This was (apparently) news to Julie. Jock continued his updates with his own lament of his sedentary lifestyle. Julie knew just what to say: "Big Jock Ewing. Who could out run, out work and out smart any ten men put together". We could see where this was going, right?
4. It was another day and another lunch date for Jock and Julie. She mentioned an upcoming job interview; he offered to drive her to her destination but just after Jock called for the check two members of the Ewing family come into the same restaurant. Who?

Answer: Bobby and Pam

Bobby and Pam saw Jock and moved toward him before they recognized with whom he was dining. Pamela seemed to be more accepting yet intrigued by the unexpected pair than Bobby; yet, Bobby hesitated - slightly - when Julie offered him the same apology she had previously offered Jock. Jock encouraged Bobby with "it's water under the bridge".

But that "water" certainly spiked J.R.'s interest when he learned his dad was spending time with his former secretary.
5. J.R. wasted very little time until he visited Julie - at her apartment. What did J.R. have delivered that allowed him access to Julie's front door with ease?

Answer: Yellow roses

J.R. switched places with the delivery man when Julie went to get a tip for him and it was J.R. who was standing in her doorway when she returned. The flowers were just a ploy - of course. J.R. wanted to learn why Julie had been spending so much time with his daddy. Julie admitted she had initially thought it was the easiest inroad back to him (J.R.) but now that she has spent time with Jock, she believed it was a mutual and enjoyable friendship - beneficial to both her and Jock.
6. J.R. knew Julie could use the information she had been trusted to keep when she was at Ewing Oil to cause him trouble - to say the least. He needed to distance her from his family and his company. He threatened Julie; he pleaded with Jock - both to no avail. Who was J.R.'s third "attempt" at a rally against the Jock/Julie relationship?

Answer: Miss Ellie

J.R. found it in his own best interest to inform his mother, Miss Ellie, as to how Jock had been spending his (unaccounted for) time. Of course, J.R. played it perfectly. He initially told Miss Ellie he was concerned that his daddy wanted to go back to work at Ewing Oil then told her the real "problem, serious problem" was his dad had been spending time with Julie Grey. Miss Ellie admonished J.R. with her certainly that any hint of impropriety was nonsense and he was to never speak of it again - to her or anyone else.
7. Very typical of the strength Miss Ellie had always shown, she tackles her problems head-on. That being said, Miss Ellie invited Julie to Southfork to tell her to "stop seeing" Jock. In the meanwhile, what was Jock doing?

Answer: Shopping for jewelry

Jock was shown looking at several very expensive (women's) necklaces. He made his purchase without we the viewing audience knowing who would be the lucky recipient. Meanwhile back at the ranch: To invite Julie to the ranch Miss Ellie called "information" and asked for the recently listed number for Julie Grey.

She included with her request the spelling of Julie's last name, G-R-E-Y. This was one discrepancy that flipped back and forth with this series. Several times Julie's last name was shown (or, spelled) as "Gray" and other times as "Grey". For the purpose of these Funtrivia quizzes, I tend to use it as it was presented at the time; thus, I am aware of the discrepancy you may notice.
8. Jock was absent from the dinner table. The awkward silence among the other family members made for a very tense evening meal. Miss Ellie left the table in tears after J.R.'s challenge to her about Jock's relationship with Julie. Who was the first member of the family to knock on Miss Ellie's bedroom door after that dinner?

Answer: Pam

The confidence and admiration between Miss Ellie and Pamela was obvious with this scene. Pam sincerely wanted to help Miss Ellie and Miss Ellie allowed her to do so as she had not allowed any other family member. Pam reminded Miss Ellie of a story she had once told Pam about taking a horse whip to Jock early in their relationship. (There had been a scene in a previous episode that showed Miss Ellie telling Pamela this story.) Pam asked Miss Ellie, "What happened to that woman".

This was all the encouragement Miss Ellie needed to go into action.
9. As Jock and Julie shared an intimate dinner in her apartment, Jock gave Julie the gorgeous (and, expensive!) necklace he had bought earlier that day. Julie was surprised and delighted - both with the necklace and with Jock's request to have his dinner at her place. What does Julie ask Jock that reveals she is aware all is not so wonderful?

Answer: "Is this a hello present or a good-bye present?"

The lovely gift not withstanding, Julie knew that Jock was uncomfortable being with her. He admitted that he had hurt Miss Ellie by continuing to spend time with Julie after Miss Ellie had asked him not to do so. Julie knew that Jock and Miss Ellie shared something that would not be torn asunder. The night would prove her right!
10. Jock decided to leave Julie's apartment and return to Southfork - without finishing dinner. Although Julie was sad, she knew Jock truly would never hurt Miss Ellie - or, her - thus the friendship must end. As Jock made his exit from Julie's apartment building, who did he see arrive in a taxi?

Answer: Miss Ellie

Jock took a deep breath as he approached Miss Ellie. He told her that he noticed she did not ask the taxi to wait. She responded that she hoped she would have a ride home. Jock did manage to (almost) smile when he asked her, "Do you have your horse whip with you?" (That must have been a scene all those years before then to cause so much recollection of it.) Miss Ellie responded with, "Do I need it?" They shared a tender smile and an embrace as Jock replied, "No, ma'am".

They apologized to each other and left for home together.
