Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Starbuck is briefing Raptor pilots aboard Pegasus about a proposed rescue mission to Caprica. Several aspects about the mission are unsettling to the pilots, but which of these is NOT one of them?

Answer: They do not have an exact rendezvous location with the resistance

The aspects of losing up to 20% of the rescue force as well as the final jump are initially disturbing to the pilots, but introducing Sharon and announcing that she would come along in order to update jump coordinates and run the installed Cylon computer almost puts them over the edge.

Installing the computers is necessary, as the advanced Cylon technology allowed the Raptors to complete the trip back to Caprica in less than ten jumps. The entire mission is volunteer-only, so anyone could back out at this news, but no one is shown doing so.
2. Tyrol is shown writhing on the floor in a side room off of the flight deck. Cally is the only person on the deck trying to find him, and she ends up waking him up. What happens when she does?

Answer: Tyrol beats her in a fit of rage

Tyrol is shown as convulsing on the floor at the very beginning of the episode, and Cally begins searching for him shortly thereafter. Between shots of the mission briefing and the first presidential debate, Cally finds him, but upon waking him up he begins repeatedly hitting her in the face until he eventually stops himself.

He then takes her to the infirmary once he sees what he has done.
3. We don't see any of the first presidential debate aside from Roslin and Baltar entering the room and "greeting" each other before the debate begins. After it is over, it is clear Roslin won, since Baltar can only bring up one issue against her. What is it?

Answer: Radical religion

Tory characterizes the radical religious charge against Roslin to be a "low blow from a desperate man," but they are not worried about it since he cannot make that a central point of his campaign and expect to win. Forebodingly, Roslin says that he needs a much bigger issue to make a difference in the polls.
4. Chief Tyrol begins discussing the episode with Brother Cavil, who appears to be a very pragmatic priest. He confronts Tyrol when he begins to lie, and we slowly see what Tyrol has been dreaming about. What happens in the dream?

Answer: Tyrol kills himself

Cavil talks Tyrol into telling him about his dream, and we see Tyrol climb up to the second floor of the flight deck and jump off the railing, a dream that he has been having every night for a couple weeks. He beats up Cally because she wakes him up before he jumped, preventing him from killing himself.
5. Racetrack and Skulls jump their Raptor to the wrong jump coordinates on the first jump of the rescue mission, but it turns out to be an acceptable mistake. Why is that?

Answer: They find a habitable planet

The Raptor jumps into a stew of DRADIS interference, and the crew almost doesn't even notice a planet below them. Skulls notices it on DRADIS, and Racetrack scans the planet, realizing that it has a nitrogen/oxygen atmosphere and liquid water. Upon returning to Galactica, Gaeta announces the planet has an acceptable climate, and further Pegasus surveys found wildlife and plant life in a temperate belt around the equator.
6. Both Baltar and Roslin are in initial agreement about the new discovery, knowing that the fleet would be better off carrying on to find Earth. However, Zarek sees an opportunity in the situation. What is it?

Answer: He wants Baltar to make settlement the main issue of his election

Baltar makes it no secret that the idea of settlement on the planet, since less than 20% actually supports human life. However, Zarek realizes that Roslin will think the exact same thing and wants to make it the one central issue of his campaign in order to play to the masses. Baltar slowly comes around to the idea, going against his own feelings in order to win the presidency.
7. Brother Cavil, still trying to get Tyrol to see the obvious, works his way to the core of Tyrol's problem. What does it end up being?

Answer: Tyrol thinks he's a Cylon

After pretending he's going to leave and give up, Cavil gets Tyrol's attention enough to bring up the point that Tyrol thinks he is a Cylon. Tyrol thinks that because Boomer didn't know she was a Cylon (and still thought she might do some terrible thing), he might be as well since he was afraid of also doing something terrible.

When asked how he knows Tyrol isn't a Cylon, Cavil responds, "Well maybe because I'm a Cylon and I haven't seen you at any of the meetings."
8. After losing Racetrack, the rescue mission only loses one more Raptor. What happens to it?

Answer: Jumps inside of a mountain

On the very last jump, Raptor 612 is lost, although Helo still picks up its signal. It ends up the Raptor is half of a kilometer away, putting it in the middle of a mountain. Momentarily phased, Starbuck announces to the mission that they have lost the Raptor, but then pushes on.
9. During the second presidential debate, we see much more of the action. Although only a few questions are shown, which American politician is NOT mimicked during the proceedings (matched with what the Colonial presidential hopeful says)?

Answer: John F. Kennedy - "Ask what you can do for the fleet"

Roslin's very first response to a question is "There he goes again" - responding to Baltar's claim about her stand on religion and the Scriptures as well as going back to Ronald Reagan's line "There you go again" during the 1980 presidential debate regarding Jimmy Carter. Later, Baltar claims Roslin is using fear to drive her campaign when arguing against settlement on the planet: "What you've seen... is another example of the President using fear to drive her campaign. Fear. Fear of the gods, fear of the Cylon, fear of fear itself." This goes back to Franklin Roosevelt's first inaugural address, when he stated "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." After the debate is over, the two shake hands and Roslin tells Baltar "Go frak yourself," harkening back to Dick Cheney saying a similar phrase to Senator Patrick Leahy on the floor of the Senate.
10. Back on Caprica, the rescue mission sees movement in the trees. After a tense moment, the incoming force is identified as the resistance, and Starbuck and Sam have a short reunion. What happens soon thereafter?

Answer: Cylons begin shelling the area

Reunited with some of the few surviving humans on Caprica, the rescue squad is prepared to head back to the Raptors to load up, but a member of the resistance says they have Cylons behind them. Artillery shells begin hitting the area, and they cannot make it back without risking all of their lives. The episode ends with the entire group under fire.
