In the opening scene, Desmond had a dream in which he and other people, on the island, were walking around. In one part, of the dream, Charlie tripped over a wire and knew that this spelled trouble. However, Charlie was too slow to dodge the arrow that launched into his throat as a result of the wire trip. Desmond and others raced to save Charlie but he died.

As soon as this happened, Desmond woke up and realized it was just a dream.

Jack appeared, right after the opening credit flashed, and Desmond and Hurley walked right up to him to talk to him. Desmond wished Jack a good morning and asked him how it felt when he awoke in his own bed. Desmond asked Jack if he could borrow his first aid kit since he had twisted his ankle. Jack noticed that Hurley had a depressed face so he asked Hurley if there was something wrong but Hurley said nothing was wrong with him.

Near the beginning of the episode, Kate and Sawyer had scenes and they discussed their relationship. Sawyer asked Kate if she informed Jack about them being an item. Kate told Sawyer she did not tell Jack, about them, since he already knew they were a couple. Throughout the season, both Jack and Sawyer battled for Kate's affections.

In one scene, Hurley, Desmond, Charlie, and Jin were walking along a beach and came towards a rope. Hurley grabbed the rope and said that he nearly died the last time he followed a rope into the jungle. Just as Hurley grabbed the rope, Desmond had a vision of trouble coming for them. In the vision, Desmond still saw Charlie's impending death from his throat being stabbed by an arrow.

Kate spoke to Jack and Jack mentioned that he felt something was going to go wrong. This was when Kate told him that her big and dangerous adventure, for that night, was to do the dishes in the ocean. Jack told her to be careful and she said she would try. Jack asked Kate if he could borrow a spoon and she gave him one.

Right after Kate and Jack had a conversation (for more, see the "Interesting Info" section for question five), she noticed that Jack was eating, with Juliet, by a fire. Once Kate saw this, she decided to go talk to Sawyer. When she found Sawyer, they both started to make love.

In one scene Desmond spoke with Charlie, and Charlie noticed a picture that Desmond had. Charlie asked to see the picture so Desmond gave it to him. Charlie asked who the woman was in the picture, and Desmond mentioned it was Penny. Since Charlie thought she was pretty, he told Desmond "that's not bad" with a smile on his face.

Right after Desmond discussed his wife, to Charlie, Charlie stood up since he thought he heard a helicopter coming for a rescue. Hurley, Jin, and Desmond were with Charlie, at this time, and Hurley claimed that it did not sound like a helicopter. Just then, all four of them saw a red light, in the sky, and thought it was a rescue helicopter.

However, it turned out not be a rescue helicopter.

Answer: Ruth

Desmond had a flashback, near the end of the episode, and, in the flashback, he went to see his fiancé, Ruth (this was before his marriage to Penny). Ruth's brother answered the door and told Desmond to go away but Ruth told her brother to let Desmond in for a talk. During the conversation, Ruth asked Desmond if he had become a Monk and they started to discuss their relationship and their cancelled wedding. Ruth became further upset, with Desmond, and told him to not break up with someone to join a monastery.

In the conversation, Ruth hinted that she found it hard to believe Desmond would be a very religious person since she saw him only have one religious experience.

Jack and Sawyer were seen playing ping pong near the conclusion of the episode. Sawyer commented, in the middle of the game, that they needed to play every 108 minutes or else the island would explode. Jack commented that he had not played ping pong since he was 12 years old.
