Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Take Me Out to The Ball Game"- Carrie ended her relationship a month earlier in the season one finale. When she does see Big again for the first time she is on a date with the new Yankee Joe Stark. Who is the first person Carrie calls after she ends her date with Joe?

Answer: Miranda

Miranda became angry with girls at their ritual breakfast earlier in the episode. She was frustrated that talented, intelligent women could only discuss past and current loves. The real problem was she herself was lonely and did not want to be reminded. Carrie is crushed after running into Big when she least expects it, ends her date with new Yankee earlier than planned, and goes straight to a pay phone and calls Miranda.

They meet at "their place" (Carrie's words) and Miranda apologizes and comforts Carrie.
2. "The Awful Truth"- Charlotte optimistically acquires ____, a small dog with the burden of replacing the perfect man.

Answer: Henry

Charlotte gives Henry her very best, but in the end he does what all guys do- he poops on her perfect world. This is a paraphrase of Carrie's narration, so please don't write me about being a man hater! Also in this episode, Miranda deals with a dirty talking lover. When she finally works up the courage to reciprocate the dirty talk, she crosses the line and it freaks him out.
3. "The Freak Show"- Which lady discovers she is also a freak at the end of the episode?

Answer: Carrie

Carrie encounters a promising new love interest in the park. His name is Ben and from all appearances he seems normal. They decide to go out on a double date with Ben's friend and Miranda. Miranda is enjoying herself until this man reveals why his is a freak.

He has not left Manhattan at all in ten years! Miranda convinces Carrie that Ben must be a freak too. So, Carrie worries herself so much she proves herself to be a freak as well, losing Ben in the process!
4. "They Shoot Single People. Don't they?"- Carrie gets the cover of a magazine because she knows Stanford. Stanford is dating _____ and he works on the magazine.

Answer: Nevin

Carrie stayed out all night on the evening before her photo shoot. When she arrived, some very unappealing shots were taken of her without makeup. One particularly bad shot of her smoking was the photo used with the title of "Single and Fabulous" with a question mark at the end. This awful questioning statement had the entire group silently pondering their own singleness.
James Lascesne played Stanford's boyfriend Nevin.
5. "Four Women and a Funeral"- Samantha gets into a heap of society trouble when she is caught making out with the husband of a high society woman. She is ostracized from the higher parts of Manhattan and finally seeks out the help of _____. This woman offers her no help, as Sam had also made out with her own husband at one point.

Answer: Shippy

Shippy Shipman was the only woman higher up than the lady who'd destroyed Samantha. She may have had a chance with Shippy, but had groped Shippy's "trendy" husband in a moment of drunken weakness several years earlier. It is not until she meets a famous man during her charity work that she is socially redeemed.

The original showing had her meet JFK Jr. But, after he died the man was changed to Leo DiCaprio.
6. "The Cheating Curve"- Which person first mentioned this phenomenon by name?

Answer: Carrie

Charlotte's current date attended her gallery showing and then made out with another woman in the store room. When the girls later discuss the topic of cheating, Carrie points out that he must not consider kissing to be cheating. Of course he was doing a lot of groping of the young blonde as well, but back on topic... Carrie points out that there might be a "cheating curve" depending on how committed the catcher is of the catchee, and Samantha points out that you are never really cheating unless someone catches you doing it!
7. "The Chicken Dance"- This episode shows poor Miranda inadvertently setting up a man she is interested in with her Charlotte recommended decorator Madeline Dunn. Madeline asks Carrie to write her a poem just for the wedding, which was 4 weeks away. What was Charlotte's job?

Answer: bridesmaid

Charlotte was the bride's maid that found true love (for 4 hours) with her groomsman. One of her jobs was the get the honeymoon suit ready, and she did, after she and her companion made love on the honeymoon bed! It was Miranda who was in charge of both the guestbook and getting the gifts into the vehicle to take them home. Samantha's only job was to attend and mourn over the fact she'd slept with every man in Manhattan!
8. "The Man, the Myth, the Viagra"- What food item is Miranda arguing about on the phone with Carrie, when she first meets Steve Brady?

Answer: veal

Carrie was supposed to meet Miranda for dinner, but left her a message that she was not able to attend. Miranda never checked her messages and called Carrie's cell phone while she was at Big's for dinner.
Carrie: "I'm at Big's."
Miranda: "You're at Big's? You and I are having dinner tonight!"
Carrie: "Well, he got this veal..."
Miranda: "You blew me off for a piece of politically incorrect meat?"
9. "The Caste System"- How did Carrie respond to Big's gift of the ugly swan purse?

Answer: "I love you."

Carrie says the words, and he does not. She explains to the girls that he has a short period of time to reciprocate or else she has to end it- again.

Carrie: "Now I've laid down a gauntlet. He either has to say 'I love you' back or I guess I'm going to have to break up with him."
Charlotte: "Well, how long are you going to give him?"
Carrie: "Well, I didn't put an expiration date on the sentiment, but I figure it's got the shelf life of a dairy product. It's going to start to curdle in about a week."
10. "The Caste System"- Charlotte decides to get stoned with Wylie Ford and his entourage in a public restaurant.

Answer: False

She explains that she does not smoke marijuana, but Wylie blows the smoke into her mouth while kissing her. When she first meets Wylie in her gallery she is a bit star struck and calls Carrie from his limousine before supposedly having sex with him in it. Later, in the restaurant, he asks her to do something extremely lewd and she gets up and leaves.
11. "The Caste System"- What is the name of Harvey Terkell's possessive Asian maid?

Answer: Sum

She comes across as very pleasing and compliant, but the minute Harvey is not around she treats Samantha horribly. Samantha quickly finds that Sum is more important to Harvey than any woman he is dating and that Sum has total control over that household.
Samantha paraphrase: "She is not so dim, that Sum." A play on words of dim sum, a Chinese hors d'oeuvres of varying styles. The words dim sum translate as "to touch your heart".
12. "Evolution"- Did Charlotte ever make love with Stephen, her gay straight man?

Answer: Yes

Their connection started off innocently enough for Charlotte, who believed Stephen was a gay friend. When he kisses her passionately after an outing, she becomes confused, but intrigued. They later become lovers and Charlotte finally decides he has to be straight, but when he overreacts to a mouse in a trap she decides her gay straight man is too feminine for her! "Judging Amy" star Dan Futterman plays Stephen, the gay straight Manhattan chef.
13. "La Douleur Exquise!"- When Miranda admits to Carrie that she and her "let's get caught in the act" lover did the act in Central Park, what does Carrie reply with?

Answer: "How very George Michael of you."

George was arrested in April of 1998 for a "lewd" public act in a restroom. George later explained the situation in detail on the "Oprah Winfrey" show. He claimed to have been set up by the other interested party and that the police were waiting for him.
Miranda's lover liked the potential to be caught in the act, and finally alienated her completely by taking her back to have sex in his apartment while his parents were visiting. They walked in on the two of them, and he did not even bother to stop what he was doing!
14. "Games People Play"- When Carrie talks obsessively about Big, the girls stage a tiny intervention. They explain she needs to vent to a psychiatrist. Is it true that Stanford refers Carrie to one of his three doctors?

Answer: No

Stanford does explain to Carrie that has three varieties of shrink. One for when he wants to be coddled, one for when he wants tough love, and one for when he just wants to look at a really gorgeous man. It is Miranda's therapist that refers Carrie to Dr. Ellen Greenfield.

When Stanford hears her name he raves about her reputation to Carrie. Carrie meets another wrong guy at the doctor's office. His name is Seth (played by Jon Bon Jovi) and he loses interest in all women after he has sex with them.
15. "The Sex Buddy (edited for content)"- Dean Winters crosses over from his hit HBO series "Oz" to play Carrie's reliable booty call. What is this man's first name?

Answer: John

Carrie find him to be a wonderful lover and suddenly wonders why she never tried to make a couple out of them. But, when she does try to do so, she finds him completely dull in life. Dean and his brother Scott played the O'Reily brothers Ryan and Cyril on the HBO drama "Oz". Dean also starred in several episodes of "Rescue Me" in season one.
