quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the very beginning of the episode, you can see five signs. The first one says, "Stars Hollow Bid-on-a-Basket Fundraiser". The second one says, "Win yourself a Delicious Home Cooked ______ _____".

Answer: Picnic Lunch

The third sign says, "Sunday at 12 Noon". The fourth sign says, "All Proceeds go to the Stars Hollow Retirement Home". The final sign says, "All Signs Sponsored by Doose's Market".
2. Where did Rory and Lorelai go to shop for their baskets?

Answer: Doose's Market

Miss Patty was at the local grocery store, Doose's Market, when Lorelai and Rory were shopping for their baskets. However, Miss Patty runs dance classes, not a store where baskets could be sold! Luke's is a diner- so no baskets were sold there. Kim's Antiques is where Lane lives, and they obviously sell only antiques.

When Rory was looking for her basket, Dean was trying to butt in and give his opinion, because he works at Doose's Market.
3. Miss Patty accidentally dropped a photograph of someone out of her purse, which Lorelai picked up. Who was it a picture of?

Answer: Lorelai

Miss Patty was trying to "help out" Lorelai by finding her a date. Miss Patty would use the picture to show potential dates for Lorelai what Lorelai looked like. Lorelai didn't approve of that idea, but there is no way to argue with Miss Patty.
4. Finish this quote that was said by Jess: "Well you're having your vertical from here to eternity moment right in front of the..."

Answer: Super Glue

Dean turns around and says, in a disgusted voice, "Jess!" Jess says, "Sorry to intrude," so Dean replies, "So why are you?" Then Jess says this quote. Later he comes back to get another Super Glue because it was a "two-for-one" sale.
5. Miss Patty has sent the "resumes" of three potential dates for Lorelai to the inn. When Lorelai is leaving the kitchen to try and stop Miss Patty from "keeping it up", she says, "Oh look! One of them has seen "Ghostbusters" ___ times! Can you say score?"

Answer: 124

Right before Lorelai says this, she shows Sookie one of the guys, and Sookie says, "Eww." Lorelai says she is leaving the room to call up Miss Patty, but really she is just leaving Sookie and Jackson alone.
6. What, according to Lorelai, is wonderful about this festival?

Answer: It always falls on the day after trash day

Then Lorelai says, "Therefore, all the stuff you forgot to throw out that you'd usually be stuck with for another whole week you can pack into a pretty basket and auction it off for charity!"
7. What was something that Lane packed in her real basket for Henry?

Answer: all of these, plus more

Lane had her plan all worked out. She let her mother pack one basket, for her cousin David to bid on. Lane would then tell her mother that they were going to eat their picnic lunch by the park. When David and Lane got there, Lane would answer the pay phone that Henry was supposed to call at exactly 2:00, and David would disappear with the $20 she gave him, so that Lane could meet Henry for their first official date.
8. When the bidding for Rory's basket starts, Dean and Jess start competing for the basket. Dean said $5, Jess said $10. Jess then said $20, and Dean said $30. What was the final price for Rory's tiny basket?

Answer: $90

Dean didn't have enough money to outbid Jess's $90, so Taylor hit his gavel on the podium and said, "Sold! To the nice young hoodlum in the back, for $90."
9. Finish Jess's quote: "Person who buys the basket wins the company of the person who makes the basket for lunch. Basket, basket maker, guy who didn't bring ______ _____."

Answer: enough money

When Jess said this quote, he was trying to get Rory to come with him to eat their picnic lunch. He pointed at the basket when he said, "Basket," and at Rory when he said, "basket maker." When Jess said, "guy who didn't bring enough money," he was pointing at Dean.
10. "You know, if it hadn't been for me, I could have had it for $25." Who said this quote?

Answer: Kirk

Kirk and some other man were competing for the highest bid on Sookie's basket. (Jackson was mad at Sookie, so he didn't bid.) Kirk said, "$20". Taylor then said, "Do I hear $25?" Kirk then said, "Alright, $25." Kirk ended up paying $35 for the basket.
11. Jackson said he didn't bid on Sookie's basket because he had asked her if he should re-up his lease on his apartment, and she said yes. "What?" Sookie asked. "Don't you like that apartment?" Jackson said "I do, of course, that it is the ultimate bachelor pad, just perfect for ___."

Answer: one

"Oh," Sookie said when she responded. Jackson thought they had been on the same 'wavelength'. They weren't. His mistake. Then Sookie and Jackson discussed moving in together.
12. What did Sookie say the entire basket was?

Answer: all of these

After Sookie says this, she and Jackson get into a fairly long discussion. At the end of the discussion, Jackson asked, "So what's the problem?" Even though Jackson was really asking why it would be a problem to move in with each other if they know they won't get sick of each other, Sookie answered, "The problem is that Kirk is going to eat my goat cheese basket."
13. Why does Lorelai run into Luke's when people start bidding on her basket?

Answer: To get Luke to bid on her basket

As soon as her basket is held up, three men start bidding on it. After a few seconds, Lorelai realizes that the three men are the people Miss Patty had been trying to set her up with. Lorelai runs into Luke's to get Luke to bid the highest on her basket, so that she wouldn't have to eat lunch with any of the three losers.
14. According to Lorelai, only Luke can save Lorelai from what?

Answer: The double pathetic

Luke tells Lorelai to just bid on her own basket. Lorelai refuses to because that would be pathetic. "And this isn't?" Luke said. "But this is a pathetic I can live with. That would be a truly pathetic pathetic, and only you can save me from the double pathetic!" Lorelai explained to Luke.
15. What kind of carrot sticks does Kirk especially like?

Answer: crinkle-cut

Jackson comes up to Kirk, who was sitting on a bench, preparing to eat Sookie's basket's contents. Jackson tries to explain himself to Kirk, but Kirk goes on, in his own little world. "Where's the carrot sticks?" he says. "Every picnic has carrot sticks. I like carrot sticks, especially the crinkle-cut kind!"
16. How many brothers and sisters does Kirk have?

Answer: 12

Kirk said that his mother would make a basket for every single one of his brothers and sisters, but not him. "That's terrible, Kirk." Jackson sympathized.
17. Kirk only agreed to let Jackson have the basket if Jackson paid Kirk $250. Kirk agreed to take a check, as long as Jackson had what?

Answer: two forms of I.D.

Later on, Jackson mentioned to Sookie that he apparently didn't look like his picture.
18. What does Lane do when she realizes that Henry didn't call her because the pay phone was broken?

Answer: Runs over to Lorelai and asks for her cell phone

While Lane does start crying after Henry breaks up with her, later on in the episode, when she finds out that the pay phone is broken she runs over to Lorelai. "Do you have your cell phone?" Lane frantically asks. "Yeah, Hun, is everything okay?" replies a concerned Lorelai. "Yeah," Lane said. "I just need to make a phone call."
19. What does Luke think every time he sees a picture of people eating on the ground?

Answer: Spring for some beach chairs, you cheapskates?

Lorelai tells Luke that they are supposed to be eating on the ground. In every picture of people eating picnics she's ever seen, they are always eating on the ground. Then Luke replies that whenever he sees one of those pictures, he thinks "What the hell are you people doing eating on the ground? Spring for some beach chairs, you cheapskates."
20. Luke tells Lorelai that he is going inside to get some real food for the two of them to eat. Lorelai acts like she's insulted until Luke mentions one food item that he will bring. What is this food item?

Answer: brownies

Lorelai acts all upset, and explains that she put this lunch together. She says, "I will now proceed to pout." Then Luke tells her he'll bring some brownies, and she says, "The pouting has left the building."
21. What made Mrs. Kim know that she didn't approve of the boy Lane was trying to be with?

Answer: Lane was lying and sneaking and that meant something was wrong with this boy

Lane had run to her house, extremely upset and crying. Her mother, Mrs. Kim, was standing outside. She said that David, Lane's decoy cousin, had come by the house twenty minutes ago. Mrs. Kim wanted to know where this boy Lane had snuck off to see was. "There is no boy, Mama!" Lane screamed. Mrs. Kim ignored her.

She said, "You know you're not allowed to see boys unless I approve and I don't approve!" When Lane asked how she knew, the above answer was her response.
22. Where do Rory and Jess eat their lunch?

Answer: On the bridge

Jess said that he liked the bridge, which was a surprise to Rory because she found it hard to believe that he liked any place in Stars Hollow. After the lunch was over, the two of them decided to get some pizza. Rory got up before Jess, and Rory accidentally left her bracelet that Dean had given her. Jess didn't know that the bracelet had been given to Rory by Dean, but only knew it was Rory's.

He picked it up, and kept it.
23. Jackson started having second thoughts about him and Sookie living together. What did he suggest they do instead?

Answer: Get married

Jackson and Sookie were just sitting on a blanket, eating the basket Sookie made, when Jackson "brought it up" and basically proposed! Sookie said, after getting over the immediate shock, "Yes."
24. What made Lorelai realize that she was going about the whole 'Rory and Jess situation' all wrong?

Answer: Emily agreeing with Lorelai completely

At the Friday night dinner that Lorelai and Rory attend every Friday night at Lorelai's parents' house, Rory had left the room. Emily told Lorelai that it was important for Lorelai to set boundaries, and that Rory was young and Rory's judgment couldn't be trusted. That made Lorelai realize that Rory was a smart person, and Lorelai trusted Rory's judgment, and that, as long as Rory was careful, she should be allowed to hang out with whoever she wanted to.
25. Does Lane's mother (Mrs. Kim) ever find out about Henry?

Answer: Yes

Henry Chao was tired of hiding from Lane's mother all of the time, and told Lane that he didn't think their relationship would work. Henry told Lane he would be taking another girl to the prom. Lane ran home in tears, and when her mother asked who the boy was, Lane told her there was no boy. Mrs. Kim ignored Lane, and said that Lane knew that there were no boys allowed unless Mrs. Kim approved, and Mrs. Kim did not approve because if Lane was lying and sneaking, there must be something wrong with him.

Then Lane said, "There's nothing wrong with him! He's perfect!" That pretty much gave it away, plus they had a further discussion about Henry later on when Lane was crying in her bed.
