When Max Medina hastily proposed to Lorelai at the end of season one, Lorelai said that a proposal needs to be more magical, and mentioned "a thousand daisies" as an example of such a proposal. Max proceeded to deliver exactly 1,000 daisies to the hotel Lorelai works at the next day. The first scene of the episode shows yellow daisies blanketing the town.

Lorelai informs Patty that she hasn't told Luke about Max's proposal yet, but that she and Rory are heading over to Luke's Diner for breakfast and that she'll tell him right away. Luke takes the news quite calmly, pointing out that Lorelai and Max had been spending a lot of time together.

When she informed Rory and Lorelai of Rory's achievement, Lorelai expressed no surprise since Rory had a pretty good idea of where she had finished in comparison to her classmates. Due to Rory's success, Emily and Richard said they could have a special dinner next week and that Rory could invite friends.

A pot of lobsters is brought in to the inn, and Sookie immediately approves of them and puts her hand in the pot. A lobster clamps onto her hand and a kitchen staff member has to help remove the lobster before she can remove her hand. Later on in the episode, Sookie injures herself in her own kitchen while she is talking to Emily Gilmore and cooking something on the stove, but the lobster is what injures her while she's at the inn.

When they first arrive, Lorelai tells Emily that Dean wants a beer. Dean promptly refutes the offer, trying to appear responsible, and requests water or soda instead. When Emily asks Rory what she'd like to drink, Rory jokingly says that she'd like a beer.

Rory had informed Emily that her favorite dessert was Twinkies, so Emily had their maid, Antonia, make Twinkies for the occasion. Roquefort puffs were provided to Lorelai and Rory in the first dinner they had with Emily in this episode, but not for dessert when Dean was there.

The actual serving of the dessert never happened due to the controversy involving Richard and Dean, in which Richard grilled Dean about Rory being such a successful student who was destined for greatness. Lorelai provided a plate of Twinkies for Rory when they got back home after the altercation.

Sookie called Emily because she was planning a party for Lorelai and Max and needed to account for every guest that would attend. Emily became upset that her daughter didn't inform her that she was getting married, and asked Richard to apologize to Rory for treating her boyfriend so poorly so that Rory, at least, would inform them when she was getting married. Sookie's call came in the middle of Richard ranting about Dean being unsuitable for Rory as a boyfriend, and the result of the call was for Emily to tell Richard to straighten things out so they wouldn't push their granddaughter away like they had pushed their daughter away.

Lane's parents booked her a one-way trip to Korea for the summer, and she was worried about never being able to come back. Her suitcase was enormous, she called the American consulate, and her mother seemed so happy, which all made Lane think that she would never return. Throughout the episode, Lane expressed her distress about the situation to Rory.

When Lorelai first informed Sookie about Max's proposal, Sookie instantly brainstormed about the food she could prepare for the wedding. She discussed truffles and scrambled eggs whilst crying, telling Lorelai that she deserved this wedding after doing so well raising Rory and working at the inn.

The emotional conversation caused Sookie's boyfriend, Jackson, to leave the scene promptly because he wasn't ready to talk about marriage.
