Louise and Alice, awakened from what seemed to be a horrible nightmare, recount what really happened to them, even as all evidence of the feast before disappears when they turn their backs. Alice remembers Joseph Peach performing his surgery on her, alone, and Louise realizes that she is important to him, so she has to remain in Garrett. Because she's drawn him out, she can do some good in the town. Louise leads her out while someone watches from the derelict playground nearby.

At home, while taking a bath, Zoe looks up to find Joseph Peach sitting by the tub. He's come to check up on her. She says she feels sick and he says that it's okay because if she embraces it, she'll be stronger. He suggests that she eat something.
As Louise and Alice head back through the park, Officer Vanczyk emerges from the woods and claims that he's looking into things, even though he said he didn't believe them the day before. All he suggests is that they stay out of the park. Louise gives him her card before leaving.
When Alice and Louise get home, Alice's coworker, Nathan, seems to be there looking for her since Alice hasn't been showing up to work.

Alice heads into the house to look for Zoe and she finds that she appears to be under the covers in bed. Zoe talks about when their mother used to read 'Alice in Wonderland' to them. Unfortunately, she continues to dodge any questions about Peach. Alice finds evidence of drug use in the room and when she pulls back Zoe's bedsheets (despite Zoe's extreme hesitance) she finds that she's bleeding from her leg.

It's not as bad as it looks, at least according to Zoe. Downstairs, Louise asks Nathan if he likes Alice and he seems to stutter out that he likes her professionally.

He decides to deflect by asking about her taxidermy instead.

Luke finds his father at a local diner listening to meditative recordings and he asks if he's ever seen anything as crazy as they did last night-- like a man eating another man's lungs. Luke asks about the intake report for the prisoner transfer the previous night but his father tries to prevent him from writing anything up about the homicide.

After a quick anecdote, Luke is only halfway convinced to listen to his dad. Instead, he decides to contact Louise. Zoe ends up in the hospital and, eerily, it's a hospital that's slated to close down shortly because of cut city funding, so she, Alice, Louise, and Nathan are some of the only people there.

When Louise gets a call from Luke, she decides to take Nathan along with her, leaving the girls with the nurse. Joseph Peach's eldest son arrives at the hospital as Louise and Nathan walk out.

Answer: A shaving accident

Louise and Nathan find Luke in the hospital cafeteria and he seems to be in disbelief about what he saw-- his father and colleagues let Peach go after they departed from the police station and they let him out at the park. There, he met with another man and the two ascended a staircase and passed through a door to nowhere. Louise believes him since she knows that the Peachs are interested in the girls.

As they head upstairs to reunite with Alice and Zoe, Peach dances by the cafeteria, right in front of all of them. Alice asks Zoe what she did to her leg and her sister admits that she has a brain that misfires. Alice blames their mother, drugs, and alcohol, but Zoe says that's not the answer.

Instead, she thinks that the universe is just a random act of violence. Alice asks about the leg again. Zoe doesn't admit that while she was in the bath, she used a small penknife to cut into herself, removing a piece big enough to eat.

She claims that she cut herself shaving.

Answer: Her mother

To be candid with her sister, Alice admits to Zoe that she saw Joseph Peach and he went inside her head and did something there, potentially waking something up. It's clear this affects her. Instead of staying in the room with Zoe, she has to get up and leave. Alice heads to the door, but when she does she sees her mother emerging from the room across the hall, stabbing herself with a penknife as she approaches.

The image vanishes as quickly as it appeared. Luke, Louise, and Nathan travel through the halls of the hospital until it appears that Peach is actually chasing them instead. What follows is a chase as Peach quickly gets into Luke's head.

Racing through the hospital, Nathan is separated from the others by a locked, automatic door. Louise and Luke have no choice but to watch as Joseph Peach's son stalks down the hall behind him and slits his throat. Luke arrives in the hallway moments too late and handcuffs Peach while he laughs menacingly. Louise suggests that Luke bring Peach to her place for questioning. In her room, Zoe watches as the power shuts off and when she's left in the dark she screams for help.

Unfortunately, there's no one around to help.

She disconnects herself from her monitors and plans to leave moments before a woman appears before her bearing food.

Alice, having left her sister behind, finds a storage room of the hospital and helps herself to some of the medication inside. She remembers a discussion she had with a therapist before she and her sister moved to Garrett where she worried that, like her mother and sister, she could be at risk of schizophrenia more than the 9% value on the published data.

As she lifts herself from the floor, she turns around to find the manifestation of schizophrenia that Joseph Peach pulled from her mind. And what follows is a terrifying chase through the abandoned hospital.

The woman in Zoe's room introduces herself as Edie Peach, Joseph's son-in-law (as she's married to Robert, his eldest son). She lets herself in and opens the curtains to let the light in. before taking a seat and helping herself to some of the meat she's brought. Edie says that she should eat because there's room for her at their table and in their home; they live at the top of the staircases. Edie makes one more offer of the food she's brought.
Alice races back to Zoe's room to find her sister gone. All that remains is a card with the Peach crest on the front. It says that Zoe has come home with them, and Alice is welcome too.
Alice tries to leave the hospital but she's caught by a call from her student loan collector. She hangs up, but the someone knows where she is. They call from her from another room. It turns out to be three of the dwarves from the staircase, calling for her to help them.

Luke drives Joseph Peach through Garrett and puts up with his cryptic talking coming from the backseat. Peach keeps egging Luke on, suggesting that he doesn't matter, and neither does finding Izzy. Luke decides to stop the car and put several bullets into Joesph before continuing on. Alice drives out to Medallion Park just in time to watch Zoe ascend the white marble staircase hand-in-hand with Joseph Peach. Zoe hears Alice call her name but proceeds through the door anyways. Alice has no choice.

She contemplates what must be done and she takes the steps one at a time, and when she gets to the top, she passes through the door, closing it behind her.
